Description
A large silver pickup truck w/ CT plates 44c w98 stopped behind another vehicle at St Ronan on Canner going up the hill. A pedestrian entered the crosswalk and was almost in front of the truck when the driver sped through the intersection almost striking the pedestrian. A police report will be filed

The same thing happened to me recently at Canner at St. Ronan, and also nearby at the Hillside & Mansfield crossing. Folks apparently like to drive very aggressively in this neighborhood.
Part of the reason is may be that there is very little traffic enforcement being done in this area: look at the Crime Log's M/V enforcement records to see.
Was the hit and run driver who killed a baby on this street last year (a couple blocks from here, on Division) ever caught?

Derek, that's true, but drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians and/or drive at unreasonable speeds (i.e., greater than 20 miles per hour) through these areas are really not saving themselves any time.
The streets should be redesigned to balance the needs of all road users. In fact, lowering design speeds by re-engineering intersections, adding clearly-marked crosswalks and posting lower limits might actually make cross-town traffic flow more smoothly, especially on the hills. Drivers wouldn't be doing the speed-stop, speed-stop and vehicles could travel closer together, increasing veh/hr capacity.
