Can you be more specific regarding what is being requested? Not able to discern from the report connecting from where to where? Thanks for any information you can provide.
Thanks for responding. Can the City open the de-commissioned off-ramp (just north of Watkins Grill) to connect Atlantic Avenue/(South) Wake Forest Rd. to (North) Wake Forest Rd.? The Atlantic Avenue bridge is not safe for bicycles or pedestrians, and there is no safe way to cross Capital Blvd in that area. Converting the asphalt ramp into a bike/pedestrian path would create a safe way to cross. Thanks for your consideration.
Slingerland74, by far that is the coolest idea I have seen surface using SeeClickFix. Brilliant suggestion. That specific area of town has zero pedestrian options. Please make sure you take the time to attend the Blount St • Person St • Wake Forest Corridor Study Kickoff Meeting set for Monday October 22nd. Thanks for clarifying. We wil refer this to the Transportation Planning Division of the Department of City Planning, which has pedestrian issues under is purview. We'll update this SCF issue when they have had a chance to review.
Thanks for your comment, Reid. Yes, that's precisely the idea: the derelict off-ramp. Is it City property? I have walked & biked from Mordecai to (Upper) Wake Forest Rd before & it's not something I'd recommend!
I don't know the ramp you mean (I'll have to look more closely next time I go by) but any bike/pedestrian fix in this area would be better than it is now. It's ridiculous to have to drive that one mile stretch of Atlantic from Brookside to Hodges to run on the greenway just beyond.
Here's the view from the other side of the tracks, facing NW towards the section of WF Rd that terminates into Capital Blvd. From this perspective, the bottom of the Atlantic Ave bridge is behind you.
Here's the view facing in that same direction, but from Atlantic Ave. From this angle, the Services Lobo garage is behind you across the intersection of Atlantic Ave AKA Lower) Wake Forest Rd x Old Louisburg Rd. (that's the name given to the Capital ramp in front of the pawn shop... Confusing, yes).
Hi folks. This is an idea already being proposed as part of the Capital Boulevard Corridor Plan. The property under this rail overpass is currently private property, if I recall correctly, so there might be some work involved in getting this done. I'd certainly like to see it happen soon myself!
the fly in the ointment is that the "de-commissioned off-ramp" you are refering to is privately owned property (in order for the city of Raleigh to do what you ask they would need to purchase this property from the owner)
Just clearing a few old cases...Mark Turner's comment is correct. This is private property but has been identified in the Capital Boulevard Corridor Plan as a potential greenway connection.
