Description
Today (10/16/2012) while I was on the inbound CAT #2,
we waited on W Whitaker Mill Rd through Three (3)
traffic signal cycles (and nearly a forth if the driver didnt
go through the yellow)
My Sugestions
1) Change the light to give W Whitaker Mill Rd
more Green time
2) Change the CAT route #2 Falls of the Neuse as follows:
Inbound - Delete Whitaker Mill Rd west of Pine Dr,
Glenwood Ave, and Wade Ave
Instead Inbound at Pine Dr turn east (left) onto Whitaker Rd, then turn south (right) onto Wake Forest Rd,
then merge from Wake Forest Rd onto Capital Blvd
inbound to downtown (with a limited stop at 1390 Capital Blvd for the Urban Ministries Food Pantry)
Outbound - Delete Whitaker Mill Rd,
Glenwood Ave, and Wade Ave
Instead Outbound travel on Capital Blvd to Wake Forest Rd. (with a limited stop at 1390 Capital Blvd
for the Urban Ministries Food Pantry)
Note that Glenwood Ave is served by CAT route #6
and that there is no need for two CAT routes to serve
this area (plus tweaking the CAT #2 route as suggested
would add bus service to the Urban Ministries Food Pantry)

CAT route changes as changing CAT route #2 as sugested would solve the
schedule delays due to the five points traffic light and would add needed bus service
to the Urban Ministries Food Pantry on Capital Blvd

Five Points is a useful place to transfer from #6 to #2. Also, people commonly board the outbound #2 or get off the inbound #2 on Glenwood Ave, for which such a change would be very inconvenient.
That said, the green light should be extended as necessary.

@WestRaleighResident: note that the schedules for the #6 Crabtree & #2 Falls of Neuse busses do not allow for
convinient transfers between those two bus routes so moving the #2 Falls of Neuse bus will not be a loss to anyone
If you want to transfer between busses, do it at moore square transit station ... that is what it is designed for

@REFJR, I've made that transfer before, and seen others do it too! During peak hours you can get off the inbound #6 and catch the outbound #2 or get off the inbound #2 and catch the outbound #6. Compared to transferring at Moore Square, this saves 30 minutes. During the middle of the day you can get off the inbound #2 and catch the outbound #6, saving a full hour. This would be a big loss. Also, losing outbound service on Whitaker Mill rd would be undesirable.
The simple solution is to extend the green light when traffic's backed up.

That problem was between 2pm and 3:30 pm
At that time there was a verry long backup (having to due with the large number of vehicles
yielding to oncoming traffic to make the left turn)
Perhaps a green left arrow (doghouse signal) here would help (see photo)
ie change the left lane to a Left turn only lane
