There is a sidewalk on the West side of Harris road that stops about 20 or 30 yards short of Rucker Road. Please add the rest of the side walk to Rucker Road.

This is a very serious problem. I have often seen some cars swerving to avoid hitting pedestrians crossing the bridge where there is no sidewalk. I am talking about the area from the bridge up until the spring gate subdivision (approximately 700 feet) .Please address this issue soon. Lets not wait for a fatality before we decide to place a sidewalk there.
I would encourage all readers to go to this link that shows the same problem in detail.
http://seeclickfix.com/issues/219690 Please vote on the problem and give the Director of Engineering and Public Works, Pete Sewczwicz a call. The phone number is on the link .

Sidewalks in this area are programmed in the City of Alpharetta's Capital Improvement Program. Unfortunately, this is one of the projects that was included in the regional T-SPLOST project list that was voted down in the summer election.
The City continues to work on mobility and safety improvements along the Rucker Road corridor, including intersection and sidewalk improvements. New plans and timelines are currently being developed based upon these projects being completed using only local dollars.

So let me ask a question of the city. Other than posting on this website, what can we do to have a sidewalk created in this area. You have just informed albeit politely that: "tough.... although this is an issue that you Alpharetta citizens have been DIRECTLY asking for for years, you are not getting a sidewalk any time soon.
What are the next steps we can take. can you please list them out in detail. Thank you for your assistance concerning this URGENT matter.

City staff is currently working on refining design of these improvements with the intent of including in the FY 2014 capital budget funding request monies for final design and construction of the first phase of the project. If that request is approved as part of the City's FY 2014 budget, the funds would be available effective July 1, 2013. Shortly thereafter bids could be released for the work.
While City Council is supportive of constructing sidewalks along the Rucker Road corridor, our Council Members always appreciate citizens contacting them to share their ideas or concerns. You can find their contact information at http://www.alpharetta.ga.us/index.php?p=29.

Thank you for the clarification.
When we reference a "corridor" we mean the main roadway, the key streets that intersect it, and all of the associated sidewalks, bike lanes, etc. Thus, the reference to the "Rucker Road corridor" does include the Harris Road section that you mention.
I apologize for the confusion. We try to avoid using technical vernacular, but every once in a while a little slips in.

A quick update on this item.
City Council has approved the concept designs for the Rucker Road Corridor and included funds in the FY 2014 budget for development of engineered designs for the corridor. The approved corridor designs include 8-foot sidewalks along both sides of Rucker Road and would include short connections to adjoining sidewalks on public streets.
Staff is currently developing the documents necessary to put out for bid the engineering work necessary to complete the next level of designs. It is anticipated that the engineering work will be completed Fall / Winter 2013.

The City has begun right-of-way acquisition necessary along the Rucker Road Corridor. This process has begun on the west end of the corridor and will work towards the east.
We anticipate that the completion of the corridor project will take multiple years. That being said, it is in process and this issue report is being closed.
