The bridge is scheduled to be completed in March 2013 and I am hoping that new walkways you describe will be up/running sometime around then...and I have imagined a signal going in at Skyland Estates/Bentley Drive around then as well...

Yes, progress does take time but everyday when I drive by there going to work and coming home from work and on the weekends also, I wonder "why are all these construction workers just standing there looking at the cars going by?" As soon as the first bridge was finished (which is very nice) they immediately closed and tore up the other side then let it sit for a long time. Those of us that live in nearby neighborhoods used the handicap access rather than driving and parking, so that has been a problem. And getting in and out of the road to the parking lot is almost impossible with traffic the way it is now. So, PROGRESS, lets get a move on!! I dream of the days when driving that stretch of road doesn't mean taking my life in my hands and also, I will not miss the sirens of the rescue workers who often have to respond to accidents there now.

COMMENT TO: "GET A LIFE": It was NOT a walkway ramp but a HANDICAPPED ramp as a picture was taken showing the State Newspaper, the mayor, Greenway people, and a handicapped person at dedication for those who live in the apartments and condos and housing subdivisions in Skyland Estates AND off Bentley Drive on the other side of the hoighway! Take a good look at that ramp...it's mangled and up in the air made of cement and steel. It even said on a sign it was handicapped whether used by others who are not physically challenged or not. There is NO access to the park as it was closed down with signs that say so from the road and the State Newspaper a few months ago! Try to enter a gated entrance and report back to me how you drove in or walked in. We prefer to take our cars there with our things to enjoy it. That roadway was not bad if you went up the road and came back on the right hand side to enter. The worst part of that road was Lucious Road where a lady came out in front of me on Broad River as I came slowly over that hill. She decided to see if she could beat me anyway out of that road. Accidents were common there. As a result of mine being the last, construction took place, and they took that part of the road by the railroad track bridge and made it so those coming out of Lucious Road could see cars. We lost not only the entrance of our park but from the first year was shut off on the Broad River trail with no way to walk past that bridge! Then we lost the Columbia Canal paved road for walking downtown to the beginning of Riverfront Park! I was walking that whole trail when it was a dirt path from under Elmwood Bridge I-126 with just the Columbia Canal and not the Broad River trail below at lunchtime with workers 25 years ago and prisoners in the jail at Riverfront Park hollering out to us!!! We would walk all the way out to "Diversion Dam". You have NO IDEA how much we have lost! Springtime rains brought a flooding situation to a crane on a rubber barge below as they were almost finished with 1 side of the bridge. It was FALLING into the bridge and could have taken out the WHOLE entire thing! This area where the Diversion Dam is has a special fish channel where forest rangers give tours below on spring and summer weekends to show how certain species go down the river to the Mississippi and the ocean, AND then they return back here. They can be viewed in a portal; watching them is almost like touching them as close as they are and how fast they go. Traffic was a NIGHTMARE with no way to go downtown from Bentley Drive or go to Skyland Estates. A detour sign was also implemented which placed a load on our roads plus trucks through our subdivision, condos, and upscale apartment complexes. We have a dangerous curve at a first apartment home where 1/2 is on one side of the road and the other half across the road facing the river with a view of the "Diversion Dam!" Cars took a side road (Riverhill Circle or Riverhill Court) ruining it to the point it still has 2 Totally across the road cracks, sides of the road missing on both sides for 2 cars with some speeding (which is the back of that one apartment home complex) to cause wrecks there and damage of that road never fixed. After a few months, house and condo residents and apartment community managers complained from the noise, dangerous roads and curves, and losing rent or sales of their homes and condos finally had the road detour removed and was open. Still there is no way to go to the park or downtown from there. At the same end where Skyland Estates and Bentley Drive are, cars wrecked on that bridge sending a vehicle over and causing death. There was another accident on the bridge a few months before then with the one side completed. Go look for yourself and see how very wrong you have tried to lessen these dangerous problems and inconvenience with money wasted.

A COMMENT FOR ANDREW: I sure hope you are right! It has been almost 4 years with these problems and worse. We've had a death on the Broad River Road side. One car wrecked into another sending it over into the rocks. There was another a couple of months before that. Read my comment above to "GET A LIFE". That yellow flashing light was there (Bentley and Riverhill Circle) for quite some time, but we can't use that road to go downtown or to Skyland Estates across the 4 lane highway. It needs a red light especially with cars coming down that Broad River Road hill so FAST! Anyone trying to go to town has to go up to Broad River Road and has a red light right there at the BP gas station, a Chinese Restaurant, Broad River Road, and trying to get onto Greystone Blvd with traffic making it difficult to cross over into 3 lanes 2 car lengths from Greystone to go left onto Greystone Blvd. Usually we residents have to drive up a few streets in Huffman Heights trying to cross Broad River Road to go back to Greystone Blvd. facing traffic but finding 1 red light to catch at an odd angel.

A NOTE TO "LOCAL"....You sure are RIGHT on that one! Those WHO should care and be responsible for these construction workers and plans must have failed math and dropped out of school. I've never seen a bridge take this long! We were told it was going to take 4 years which would be July 2014. It needed replaced for many years and didn't get placed on the list until STIMULUS money was released. That just shows me when the federal government gets involved they just can't get the job done right or in a timely fashion. On top of that, as they construct things, they've been destructing other things and causing accidents as well plus a death! We've had NO park to use for months. After 1 year, we had our lower Broad River Trail cut off without a way to walk it. We had found out that after a 1/2 a mile, we had to turn back! The 2nd year, we lost the Columbia Canal Trail down to Riverfront Park. The 3rd year we have lost getting into the park completely from our end at "Diversion Dam!" There is a sign at the road from Broad River/River Drive stating it's closed. If anyone tries to go there, a metal gate has the road shut off! They should take that road in the park and raise it higher as it has a tendency to flood out and has so many ruts and pot holes in a road not paved. I don't want gravel as it scratches up cars and makes a dust not good for people with respiratory problems including asthma. It gets frustrating having the nicest end of the park with so much to offer, and we can't use it!

The bridge is supposed to be finished by June 2013 but we shall see how that works out...

This situation of the Broad River Bridge is STILL UNCHANGED!!!!! IT IS MUCH WORSE!!! How long does it take to rebuild a small bridge? PLEASE ADD MORE COMMENTS TO GET THIS DONE!!! We have roads we can't even get out of our places to get into town for our jobs and doctor appointments or ER at Richland Hospital! It's horrible when the firetrucks and ambulances and police cars go by many times day and night trying to get to where someone needs help or get them to the hospitals or get to the crimes in time or fires. Traffic lights are a rarity for all these drivers going into work and Palmetto Richland Hospital patients.

We can't even take Bentley Drive, go up River Hill Court (not Circle) as the light at the BP and Greystone Blvd. and Broad River are AT the LIGHT! There is NO way to let anyone cross 3 lanes of traffic and not get in a wreck just to jump over at that light onto Greystone Blvd.! Traffic coming out of the top road of Skyland Estates use that extra lane plus traffic coming up Broad River Road from the bridge can't see you nor can you see them in time not to get hit in good weather. If the sun's blocking anyone's eyes coming out of Skyland Estates they can't see that traffic.

We have only ONE traffic light before Bush River Road to turn around and get back into that traffic on Broad River Road. That traffic light is off center maybe on Means Street in Huffman Heights Subdivision with school buses and other traffic going straight, left, or right. It leaves many of us making a turn into the Food Lion Grocery Store shopping plaza hoping to get out safely onto Broad River Road on that right side and tend with going more blocks and more traffic and time and gas wasted

Why doesn't WIS, WLTX, and WOLO....all 3 mention and show this plus question these bozos about this?

We lost 3 years of \normalcy, a fairly new handicapped ramp on the bridge the old mayor dedicated still hanging up in the air destroyed, a closed down park part of Riverfront Park Diversion Dam (near this bridge that almost took out a crane lift on some weird stand from a flood last spring being on that moveable device). We ALMOST had it taken out on on the one new side of the bridge just finished!!!

The Parks and Recreation plan to have a group of people from our city and other places to see the special one of a kind fish channel lots of money was spent on. We lost a top area Columbia Canal walkway and a Broad River lower walkway. Then they closed the park down using iron gates! I know what it is like to be an older person with another with 2 early adults LOCKED inside the park when we couldn't get to our cars in time to leave though the park rangers and SCE&G and police knew we were there with our cars parked out in the open parking lot! It was so very dark there in a high crime area and the soon to be shut down "stripper's club" the police chief said on tv last week and this week the owners re-opened without permission! They haven't had a business license nor a liquor license, but they had gambling machines and shootings and deaths. No one would want to be in that area in the dark at 8:30 p.m. in the summer not able to get out nor a phone number for help. They took their good old time coming to rescue us! Why do we need gates and shut out at 8:00 p.m.? There are lots of lights that were on the walkways and lots of locals who walk to Diversion Dam and the Columbia Canal to fish and take plenty home up the hill from walking the steps of Riverview Terrace where the Roosevelt Village projects were located.

The call boxes are everywhere, BUT that's no where near the exit! It's a drive in and drive out for one lane and so close to the Canal to drive into even if the water is up a little. They need to raise that road NOW while it's closed and widen it to avoid flooding from the Columbia Canal.

This is just so VERY unprofessional to rebuild a bridge with the 4 year Stimulus Money Package to pay for it. Federal Government makes things worse because the average person from a state and area who KNOWS how to do things the right way and are there to monitor these bridges and roads would have had this done in a year at the most. Had some locals not seen that barge on a make shift stand and crane lift falling towards the new side of the 2 lane bridge, it would have ALL been in the drink (Broad River) and over with going down the Saluda River to the Congaree Rivers!!! What all could have been taken out on it's way down there 2 miles?!

THERE ARE SEVERAL SERIOUS AND IMPORTANT REASONS FOR WORKING MORE QUICKER OPENING OUR 2 1/2 YEAR BRIDGE PROJECT ASAP: Because of our LONG term bridge DELAY with promises of opening dates unfullfied in rebuilding our Broad River Bridge at Columbia Canal and Broad River STILL NOT finished, here are the reasons below as follows as to why it needs FINISHED A.S.A.P.:

1. It has become an even more accident hazard at the top of the hill at Broad River Road at River Hill Court (Circle). Drivers are trying to cross from River Hill Court (Circle) to get across 3 lanes with blind spots to the lane to turn left near a red light to go to Greystone Blvd. (BP Station, Asian Restaurant, Wray Mazda Volkswagen) and those coming out of Skyland Estates at River Hill Circle.

2. We've had injuries and deaths especially when a car was slammed into and forced over the Broad River Bridge going down to crash into the rocks below (what a horrible death!).

3. People are terribly fearful driving on this bridge from River Drive and Sunset Blvd. coming home from work and doctors office visits at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.

4. Construction had also closed our ending part of Riverfront Park at the gorgeous Diversion Dam. We have various beautiful birds coming in to feed 2 times a day. It does a lot for anyone to relax and enjoy the beauty of what we all have here in our Greenway Park System.

5. Our 2nd walking path beneath the Columbia Canal was destroyed and disrupted at Broad River can no loner be enjoyed

6. There is no more handicapped ramp into the park at Columbia Canal for handicapped residents who were happy and excited as the mayor and media came with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

7. A special Fish Channel had visitors drive far or walk close-by before who enjoyed during the spring and summer when the park rangers gave tours explaining how unique this is in the state. What a tourism attraction it had been!

8. Businesses are and have closed down from these delays and traffic hazards losing prospective customers.

9. A car wash on River Hill Court (Circle) and Broad River Road near but inaccessible to the traffic light was built for local and driver's passing by between the BP Gas Station and the Asian Restaurant lost so much business, they have been facing foreclosure for over 1 1/2 years. The owner can't sell it or even a parcel of land to anyone next to this car wash to stay in business and pay for its expenses of owning the land.

10. No cars can drive downtown from Bentley Drive and across the street at Skyland Estates both with housing subdivisions, condos, and apartment homes. It creates having an imagination to find one's way around to find their way and attempt to cross traffic during the rush hours!

11. I was on the seat edge with my seat belt on as a taxi took me from River Hill Court (Circle) behind the popular Asian Restaurant alley crossing traffic all the way over to the 3rd lane. By the time I arrived at the doctor's office at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital, I had a very high blood pressure reading! We could have been hit, injured or killed.

Whomever cares about this important situation or does not know about it, PLEASE drive by (be very cautious) and see what is and has been happening here. PLEASE comment here and tell your friends even facebook and other social media connections to also come comment about this. We NEED MANY votes!

AS LONG AS THIS CONTINUES, YOUR HOMES ARE GOING TO CONTINUE NOT SELLING THESE LAST 2 YEARS! THE TRACTS OF LAND ON BOTH SIDES FOR SELL OVERLOOKING THE BROAD RIVER DIVERSION DAM AND ONES IN SKYLAND ESTATES OVERLOOKING THE BROAD RIVER FROM ATOP THE HILLS! THEY ARE GOING INTO SHORT SALE AND THEN INTO FORECLOSURE!

My vision is to do as follows:

- close/tear down the Kangroo Express on Broad River across from Greystone
- move Riverhill Drive on that side so that it comes into Broad River Road at a safer angle
- Build a new Kangroo Express convience store roughly where the car wash is currently located

EXCUSE MY MANY TYPO ERRORS!!!! THIS HAS BEEN A MOST HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE FOR ALMOST 4 YEARS AND COUNTING WITH MY NAMING ABOUT 24 ITEMS. I didn't even include the crater at the bottom of River Hill Circle (really COURT) on the right at the bottom perhaps a water drain with pothole extending out into Bentley Drive and River Hill Circle (Courtor cracks that are open and spred across the road. We want this road to stay open for ALL of us here on top and on the bottom or the hill and school busses for our children.

WE need an "edit button" here to correct our errors.

Andrew: The BP Kangaroo Express has been a problem, also, for a long time as an accident waiting to happen. A person waiting at the red light at Greystone Blvd. at Broad River Road atop the hill of the bridge being worked on for 3 1/2 years has been a real problem for those who want to get gasoline.

1. When the light turns green or is already green, drivers MUST turn left. They can't give drivers behind them enough time to indicate thery want to turn right into the BP Kangaroo Express! You are right, they need to close/tear it down. It';s been there for at least 30 years which use to have a turn signal before the car wash to go straight onto Greystone. People paid at the pump at an outdoor closed in kiosk. It worked well.

2. I don't know if River Hill Circle (really River Hill Court...also needing work and could be dangerous at 2 areas ans one being a blind spot with speeding) can be rerouted. There are apartment homes, "The Mill", at Bentley Drive below near the bridge being worked on that has a back entrance people utilize from Greenville Circle to either go to the above the hill (Bentley Drive) entrance or exit 1/4 a mile to turn right if staying on Broad River going towards Bush River Road or I-20 or Dutch Square Mall an easy way to be on Broad River Road there.

3. People use to drive out of BP when that red signal was eliminated. Several years later, a laser car wash was installed there next to the BP Kangaroo Express. Apartment home dwellers drove through the laser self service car wash to get to the upper end of "The Mill" at the back end for a safer and quicker way. The owner oif that car wash installer yellow pipes to prevent asny cars coming from the BP tyo River Hill Circle (Court)! He's been striving st keep that car wash open almost bankrupt several years and desperate enough to sell a pice of land cornering "River Hill Circle" (River Hill Court). Those wanting to use the BP gas station do so from even the Btroad River Road to croos over it to get into the station! It's QUITE busy due to location, sometimes good gas prices, and the convenience store we all know how gas stations make their money NOT by gasoline. BP Kangaroo Express want to make sure they get that same continued business not being an on off side road (River Hill Circle ...or River Hill Court).

4. The state or whomever is in charge don't really make an effort to cut down trees until the road (River Hill Circle or River Hill Court) is 1/2 covered with trees and thunderstorms take out telephone poles and trees falling on them to be left without electricity to those partments and others around them. They send "Esplundah Tree Cutting and Trimming Services" around ealy August to trim trees back there or cut them way back which is also the beginning of Greenville Circle Subdivision (Huffman Heights) ending at River Hill Circle (or Court).

5. We need DESPERATELY to have signs at Bentley Drive (1st right hand turn off of Broad River Road Bridge) and first left hand turn (A DANGEROUS CURVE) from both directions on Bentley Drive to slow down approaching River Hill Circle (River Hill Court) and 3/4's the way up that hill needing a SIGN to say "Road Entrance and Exit. SLOW DOWN". "Cars Entering or Exiting and Dumpster Garbage Trucks Coming Out On a Continual Basis." Many people used that River Hill Circle (Court) when it was made a Detour for the bridge for several months with people finding out THEN there is a short cut to beat the light at the top of the hill! They don't realize what a real road hazard is awaing them...no easy egress to Greystone Blvd. (look out when it's sunny and hard to see to jump 3 lanes of cars bottlenecked there!).

6. There use to be "Ebony Dance Studio" making it easier to get in line going back behind the alley to get into line earlier; she shut it down with signs and police which was NOT affecting her business! Then she had signs that said "NO TRAFFIC DRIVE THROUGH". Tickets were constantly being issued until she blocked it off there and the alley at the end of her pink building. After 20 years, she was married and left the site. Still no one could utilize it.

7. A Chinese Restaurant has been there when the Ebony was just recently doing VERY WELL for meal business facing Broad River Road and back road River Hill Circle (or Court) with an alley a house next to it sold and not a family in it.

8. People are still taking chances BIG TIME trying to go all 3 lanes of Broad River Road from River Hill Circle (Court) to go to Palmetto Richland Hospital from the house with pot holes! A taxi driver did this when I was a passenger paying over $10 to go 3 miles on 02/14 and a ride I had from my car being used by another family member for college used the same exact alley road!!! The sun was horrible to be able to see, but the driver did as others who know about that way into that same area to go down to the Broad River Road Bridge into town or to Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital for work and doctor appointments, gun it with speed, and hope they made it with no accident!!! I won't even try to use River Hill Circle (Court) across from Skyland Esates or at the top of the hill on that side of Broad River Road for Greystone Blvd or go down to Palmetto Richland Hospital any of those places. I go up to Means Road to Broad River Road out of my way to traffic light (hoping there are no school busses coming from acroos the road at an angel) that is almost not meant for turning left! I turn left and go either safely to Greystone Blvd. or to the Broad River Road Bridge!

10. It is so freaky going across that unfinished Broad River Bridge with NO guard rails! AND THE RIVER IS WAY UP FROM ALL THE RAIN AND DIVERSION DAM FLOWING FROM SMITH CREEK AND LAKE MURRAY! I just about hold my breath until I pas or say a prayer or both for everyone's safety. There is so much water that NO ROCKS are visible in the water (ALL COVERED UP!). Anyone who knows this area of Broad River and the bridge KNOWS lots of rocks are visible from the bridge, Columbia Canal Park and Greenway Walkway when it WAS opened, and people who fish under the bridge and at Diversion Dam who live and walk across the railroad tracks know it's HIGH when we get rain a couple of days. Lord Help us all when so many firetrucks and police trucks run that bridge 24/7!!!

11. Signs need to be placed to let cars know who come off of Broad River Road (first right turn after the bridge) onto Bentley Drive to ALL the several apartment complex homes, condos (Broad River Estates), Bluff River Estates homes behind Atlantic Avenue in Huffman Heights (inside the gated lock) at Broad River Township. Land for sale called River Bluffs have lost so MUCH money trying to sell them for over $175,000 for .1 lots are now sold as 7 for the price for $175,000 to $165,000 recently.

12. We have an SCE&G work area and small plant at River Ridge stated in number 5 and 2 - 3 VERY expensive homes on that bluff.

13. It use to be that ANY home on Greenville Circle, Atlantic Drive, and the rest of our Huffman Heights subdivision sold in ONE week!!! We had very FEW rental units as single homes! They have been rented out for 1 - 2 years and were ruined by occupants turning back to empty for repair and then for sale, again, but they stay on Zillow for too long. I never would have believed these homes would sit more than a week yet go down so far in price to be foreclosed. Our nighborhood had been that great!

CAN EVERYONE SEE WHAT A MONSTOSITY THIS HAS BECOME!? I CHALLENGE YOU TO DRIVE THESE ROADS ANY TIME OF DAY AND INCLUDE THEM AT MORNING TRAFFIC HOUR, LUNCH HOUR, AND 3 TRAFFIC AFTER WORK PATTERNS/SPANS TO ELEVIATE TRAFFIC EVERYWHERE!

When is the last time you were there to see this from both sides?

It seems as if it will never re-open. I can't believe it's been 4 years!

There are more people with houses for sale now than I have ever seen especially Atlantic Drive in Huffman Heights Subdivision with 13 for sale signs! No one can drive on Atlantic, turn right, go down Bentley Drive, and turn left to go straight into town or across Broad River Road into Skyland Estates! I'm seeing more houses with for sale signs there, too. Greenville Circle has more for sale or empty. Homes use to be rarely for sale. If they were, they were elderly estates, and they sold the same day or 2 days later. They just sit from frustration of how the roads around are stopping people from going where they want and trying to avoid a lot of traffic.

We still can't walk to the end of Riverfront Park's Diversion Dam with that expansion of a special fish channel with tours 5 years ago. We can't walk down to Riverfront Park from Diversion Dam houses and condos and apartments in neighborhoods on the long hillside part of Broad River up to the BP. We can't even walk past the Broad River bridge but just to the bridge when we could access the park!

And they still have the bottom path by the river (not upper Columbia Canal one) torn apart and closed off. I'm not sure even if the park is open. The damage done to this side of Riverfront Park will be expensive to fix.

We'd all be open here when parts of Cayce and the amphitheater closes from too much rain. They have to keep closing it down and cleaning it up and repeating it over again.

The loss of the handicapped fairly new ramp in the middle of the bridge was damaged. That left it impossible for them from houses, condos, apartments, and duplexes to go to this park. I remember so well the picture in the State Newspaper as Mayer Coble cut the ribbon at the ceremony for those needing a way into the park. Then no one could go as the road across the Broad River bridge found our end of Riverfront Park with Diversion Dam and birds coming in for food twice a day left the rest of us out.

Doesn't anyone remember the horrible chain car accident on the bridge as one was sent over the bridge cliff straight down into the rocks and river?

How long does it take to use Stimulus #1 money to start this work and still be going on 4 years later? It doesn't make hospital workers very happy to have to drive this twice a day!

You'd think this was some tall span bridge with lighting...but it's not. Why don't they add that? At night there are no longer any lights to be seen on what use to be two trails to walk.

The one next to Broad River was shut down a long time ago. It's like they closed our end of Riverfront Park where we use to walk at lunch time from work downtown on dirt roads and a path in an unprotected area where gangs frequented.

Walkers couldn't wait to arrive there to spend time just to relax at the scenery without benches and a rest room. All sorts of breeds of birds would be there, too.

When is the last time you were there to see this from both sides?

It seems as if it will never re-open. I can't believe it's been 4 years!

There are more people with houses for sale now than I have ever seen especially Atlantic Drive in Huffman Heights Subdivision with 13 for sale signs! No one can drive on Atlantic, turn right, go down Bentley Drive, and turn left to go straight into town or across Broad River Road into Skyland Estates! I'm seeing more houses with for sale signs there, too. Greenville Circle has more for sale or empty. Homes use to be rarely for sale. If they were, they were elderly estates, and they sold the same day or 2 days later. They just sit from frustration of how the roads around are stopping people from going where they want and trying to avoid a lot of traffic.

We can't walk down to Riverfront Park from Diversion Dam houses and condos and apartments in neighborhoods on the long hillside part of Broad River up to the BP. We can't even walk past the Broad River bridge but just to the bridge when we could access the park!

And they still have the bottom path by the river (not upper Columbia Canal one) torn apart and closed off. I'm not sure even if the park is open. The damage done to this side of Riverfront Park will be expensive to fix.

We'd all be open here when parts of Cayce and the amphitheater closes from too much rain. They have to keep closing it down and cleaning it up and repeating it over again.

NOT ONE SINGLE THING HAS BEEN DONE HERE TO ADDRESS THESE SERIOUS ISSUES about the "MIA BROAD RIVER BRIDGE!" What is the hold up on this situation that when you read my comments above you will see what an ongoing over-do project is NOT being taken care of. Who is responsible for getting this work completed and bridge looking like someone is doing nothing on it, and our Greenway Park back in commission for all these residents here and the beauty of Diversion Dam? In all my years here, I have NEVER seen in Huffman Heights subdivision 15 houses up for sale. There were also very highly costly lotys for sale that are now bundled up in one price trying to get rid of them at still a non-bargain. There were 6 lots that were only .10 acres at $170,000 EACH!!! Now they are being sold as a lot for that price! It's not like we have the best school system in the area as we are inner city people. Many living here are so disgusted with property values going down and the horrific traffic made when someone made our area a detour for too long. These houses may have come up for sale due to estates, but they sold to another person that same week before all this happened with the bridge! That's not so these last 2 years caused by these roads and bridge disconnection. Traffic is horrendous. When there is 1 death from a car going over the side of the bridge crashing down into the sides of the hill and into the boulders down below, that is one too many to have. Better hope their crane is more safer than originally when it sat on there with rain last year causing it to lean towards the part of the bridge first being rebuilt. We would have had a real crisis in downtown Columbia when it would have collapsed the bridge and who knows what would have happened to Interstate 126 Elmwood Avenue bridge and the rest of them downtown? Someone better take this more seriously! I feel for the rest of you who will be next to have bridge repairs and accidents from construction and traffic with deaths; your wait time will be 3 times what you were told it would take to complete. It shall really impact your lives in more ways than one!

It involves Bentley Drive, River Hill Circle and River Hill Ct., Skyland Drive, both sides of Broad River Road, horrific traffic getting in and out of it to go to Greystone Blvd. at the light at Broad River trying to cross 3 - 4 lanes at a "T", many condos and apartment home complexes, 2 very nice subdivisions with many older people trying to cross into just 1 lane, people making their own roads and changes, and automobile expenses hitting a drain and pot holes. There are blind areas where cars speed not knowing about the blind curves with speeding and drivers not knowing that residences are coming out of an apartment home complex.

So, you send me an email on my topic but not the others or spin offs of people who added theirs as this grew larger and larger when our federal government Stimulus #1 bridge repair about if it's fixed! Seriously?

What does it take to get a response from WIS-TV to come out to video tape this for tv on one of their programs of consumer issues that affect so many people and traffic on this bridge going from the top of the hill at Greystone Blvd and now beyond to below at the bridge becoming River Drive?

I've heard stories over the weekend about Stimulus #1 programs for roads and bridges across the country taking 10 years for such a small project to be finished by a certain date.

Who did the bidding for this one here and won the contract to perform a bridge replacement that's nothing fancy but quite simple? It has no spans or special lighting.

They took a handicapped ramp away after the mayor and news had built and dedicated to our residents here to be able to enjoy this special part of The Three Rivers Greenway with so much to offer.

While the other connector Greenway Parks kept flooding out all summer, ours never did but was closed off at times for no special reason.

I guess it doesn't matter either that school is back in with more precious cargo having to deal with this again still 4+ years later!

What is it going to take to speed this up?

We had one death over a year ago from this excuse of a bridge being built! Imagine if you and maybe a co-worker, friend, or family was in that car leading the front of several cars that slammed on their brakes first hitting it with a chain reaction of cars sending it over the bridge, watching it crash down over the embankment while it hit rocks on the side and landed on more as the person(s) inside drowned in the Broad River! It use to be for many years the yearly jump off "suicide bridge."

Just imagine that sight of that car hit from behind by others as whomever the occupant(s) were saw their death coming!

Something horribly dangerous is going to happen with Greystone Blvd., Skyland Esates, Huffman Heights, Broad River and its bridge, these many apartment homes, and condo owners having a massive wreck that will bring many fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, and all the news to this area. I pray and believe it will not be my own family and friends, but sadly it will be others that I will be very sad about because I didn't do enough to stop this program of many problems and destruction escalate to this point.

Is this just a reporting place of competition between other states who have issues to just complain where some planned program has so much pressure placed on the "powers that be" to show those folks who fought hard had won? Yet, we sit here with no reponse. I'm thinking you are from California which we know was the first state to go bankrupt.

How is this Obama Stimulus #1 and #2 "working for you?" Is this the "hope and change" you expected? Or has the "Change" we all are experiencing have no more "Hope" left?

You also need to check all the issues I have left over and over again over 4 years plus those surrounding me have ones that have spun off of mine and my neighbors who have been reporting their incidents!

I still stand by my many comments here. They have not changed! As anyone can see, there have been almost 200 who have shown their interest and those who commented here and on other areas of SeeClickFix. Here we go into another season of Fall. That means there will be slow downs some more. Colder weather makes it harder to get this bridge down. Again, time is passing by with over 4 years of still only one side of the bridge open. There were 2 instances where traffic had to be stopped this summer for an early morning traffic shutdown not widely publicized to blast rock. Did this construction company NOT anticipate all that they would be getting into, or did they know not letting the many drivers be told what all would happen here to delay this moving on to finish this bridge?! This ongoing set of serious problems concerning "MIA (Missing in Action) Broad River Road Bridge" and the destruction of our Greenway Park System of 2 major trails at Columbia Canal and Diversion Dam leading down town to Riverfront Park, partial use of Greenway Park System with NO flooding for activity users does NOT flood as West Columbia and Cayce does very often, been reported more than your listing above at 258 times and has been reported 400+ times according to your records is NOT accurate and much higher than your estimates!

What is the plan and time table for opening the "MISSING IN ACTION (MIA) Broad River Road Bridge" that is going on 5 years at a snail's pace from way back when our state was given from the federal government Stimulus #1 money in 2008 for starting construction June 2009? There are so many issues, some very dangerous resulting in death and almost losing that bridge which could have affected ALL bridges going downtown with Interstate 26 and 126 and maybe a major flood in Columbia, to a 4 lane road that's been 2 lanes for almost 5 years.

I guess there are people who are in charge at the SCDOT wanting to pay out more money for deaths and injuries on the bridge, wrecks up on the hill around Greystone Blvd., and making sure we continue to hit and lead the news nationally should all bridges leading into downtown be destroyed by OUR end at the 600 and 700 block of Broad River Road and River Drive. I'm sure that drivers, bus riders, and emergency personnel would be happy trying to figure out how to get into and out of town for emergencies. Our trains that run on a consistent basis would be stopped. Riverbanks Zoo would be closed down from this destruction.

REMEMBER...WE ARE A MAJOR ROAD FOR CONTINUOUS USAGE BY SCHOOL BUSES, WORKERS AT RICHLAND HOSPITAL, AND PATIENTS APPOINTMENTS OR HOSPITALIZATIONS!

FIRE TRUCK DRIVERS, AMBULANCE DRIVERS AND EMT'S, AND POLICE CAR RESPONDERS ARE COUNTING ON THIS ROAD AND BROAD RIVER ROAD BRIDGE AND RIVER DRIVE. THERE IS A CONSTANT DAY AND NIGHT SOUND OF SIRENS IN THIS AREA WHERE TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!

I want to know why I can't vote on my issues and others on here since last night losing my comments even after I signed in. I care about others issues as well and try to lead them to how they can get their answers. It makes me seem foolish giving answers when mine and my subdivisions neighbors comment here being the oldest and no answers! One issue on "SeeClickFix" in particular didn't even have an assigned Congressional District number nor anyone they could contact for their important neighborhood issue.

#2 - it actually is a complicated project. Aesthetic features were added to the structure to keep with the style & look of the old one. It is also being built in stages - the 1970's side was replaced first. There are also a sewer line, a water main and several fiber optic lines crossing the bridge.
#3 - the money for this bridge replacement wasn't stimulus money.
#4 - the pedestrian ramp to the walkway will be rebuilt. The new bridge is about 7' wider & the old ramp wouldn't fit anymore. In fact, we specified that it should be opened again once the north side of the replacement was done. We designed improvements to the trail next to the canal to provide more headroom for bicyclists & ambulances to go under it.
#5 - this project only involved the bridge and a short distance of road before & after.

Bridge Engineer, that is very considerate of you to comment to these citizens who seem to think this project is unsatifactory. I think what has to be done, has to be done, it is what it is and you and fellow workers should be appreciated in more ways than one. I look at this from 'Bridge Engineer's' perspective and we just need to not complain any longer. They know what they are doing and the steps and obstacles which follow should be expected at what amount of time that it takes. It will get done. Bridge Engineer, thank you for you time, your post and I hope the crew is safe and continues to be safe without any pressure what so ever. One of my sons happens to be finishing college (last semester) for archtectural/civil engineering. I know most of what comes with it. Be happy? It has been 4 years now, 3 1/2 of which I have lived in an apartment near the bridge. It makes no sense to me that a bridge of this size could take so long to finish, especially since it still only looks half done. Are we going to need to wait another 4 years for the other side to be finished?

Another thing, why have they not connected the ramp to the side of the bridge that is finished? They built the ramp, but when it was about 3 feet from the bridge, they simply put a piece of plywood on it and kept it disconnected; if I want to go on the riverwalk I either have to walk through a construction area or take a detour down the side road to get to the dam parking lot.

I've heard from many people who grew up in this area as children terrified riding with their parents and later drivers themselves to Richland Memorial Hospital and jobs until they became semi-retired and moved outside this Broad River Road bridge area to West Columbia near Rte. 1 and I-26 or Lexington. They are shocked even with what Bridge Engineer, especially #2 statement said still is no excuse for all they had to do and should have known by any original or other blue prints or pipes needing changed meaning the bridge stayed in the governments mind leaving it go that this would be very costly and timely. The proper way to handle these common sense situations is to be forth coming with news reports on tv and the State Newspaper and adding to this comment section where they are with this project and what to expect next. The longer this was put off and originally made shows that patch jobs and changes were from the 1970's and would cost even more delaying it. It would be interesting to find out WHAT was the original estimated cost when they started. What it cost them for the deaths of those going over the bridge. Take into account the almost fiasco when we had one rare rain storm where the crane almost took a trip down the Broad River not knowing what it could have cost for its damages.

PLEASE CORRECT FOR ME, CLICK FIX, THAT SINCE 02-2014 there's been no explanation from anyone as to when this MIA (MISSING IN ACTION) BROAD RIVER ROAD BRIDGE, COLUMBIA CANAL, DIVERSION DAM RESERVOIR, HANDICAPPED RAMP OUT OF COMMISSION 6 + YEARS, AND NO CONNECTION TO RIVERFRONT PARK as the connecting parts to the THREE RIVERS GREENWAY. THERE ARE NOW FOUR THOUSAND THIRTEEN COMMENTS/VOTES ON THIS SUBJECT. MAYOR COBLE HAS NOT BEEN OUR MAYOR FOR OVER 2-3 YEARS (It's Mayor Benjamin). WIS-TV has NOT even mentioned this bridge except for the suicides and wrecks that plunged vehicles over it into the stone cliff and straight down into the huge boulders killing people by drowning.

The bridge lanes are FINALLY open to traffic...only about 18 months behind schedule...now if only the main pedestrian bridge can be linked to the new bridge
