Another day, another tractor trailer parked in the bike lane on Broadway. Yes yes, I called CPD. Unfortunately the driver saw me standing there and took off, so CPD's dispatcher didn't really care to record the issue, so here we are. Hooray for citizen action keeping road users safe, but we really shouldn't need to be doing that.
Again, can something be done to physically prevent trucks from parking in the bike lane here? As we've all learned, abstinence doesn't really work. If you want to avoid major issues you really need to protect users.

As has previously been mentioned, nothing can be done under the existing roadway configuration to provide physical separation while allowing roadway maintenance to occur. The long term plan for this roadway includes separated bike lanes, however that will require a full reconstruction of the roadway.
We have been actively enforcing truck loading on this block as well as working directly with the management at the adjacent building. Our observations have indicated that trucks in the bike lane have decreased dramatically over the last month, however it is impossible to completely eradicate the illegal behavior.

We understand your frustration with our requests, but imagine ours when we try to go to work safely, and constantly have to avoid drivers, trucks, cars, and other crap put in the 5 feet-wide area where we are supposed to be. This is beyond a simple annoyance, this is putting people in unnecessary danger, because one person valued saving a couple of minutes more.
We understand education and infrastructure change take time, but we have to make sure this is reported, and brought to the attention of the decision makers, or the same design mistakes will be made again to save 3 parking spots.

With all due respect, I suspect that, during the summer months at least, there are some "outside the box" solutions we could implement, but if your attitude is "major construction or bust" we're never going to be able to try that.

I will continue to report every single incident I see. It takes me a minute or two, and there is literally nothing else I can do. Putting up my own bollards is illegal. Painting my own green paint is illegal. Enacting citizen's arrests of illegally parking drivers is...uh...probably illegal. They're generally pretty mean dudes anyways, so I try to avoid them.
What else can I do but report every single incident? Seriously, tell us how to better direct our energies. I'd love to do something more constructive, but I don't know what that would be. In the meantime, I'm going to do everything in my power to make my daily commute safer.
I guess the question is do you want a master issue that we leave open until the underlying issue is resolved, or do you want a new issue opened every time I see a truck doing something illegal and dangerous?
