I agree. This area is dangerous for pedestrians. Car zip around the corner too fast.

I cross this street every day, and it feels like you are taking your life in your hands. The cars coming around onto Clinton can't see pedestrians who are crossing, and those coming from Clinton into the square always seem to be speeding. This is truly a dangerous intersection.

Completely agree. I cross this street every day. This is an extremely dangerous crossing. The problem stems from Franklin and Clinton being off-set, so drivers using this as a north/south alternative to Broadway very briefly have to travel east / west on Division. Those heading north are often accelerating away from Franklin Square as they make the turn onto Clinton and pedestrians crossing Clinton cannot be seen as they are obscured by trucks, cars and vans parked on the north side of the square. Cars travelling south on Clinton, meanwhile, have to go past the natural pedestrian crossing point in order to check traffic travelling east on Division before making the left into the square. This is all made worse because the stop sign at the end of Franklin is universally ignored. Step one would be to enforce compliance.

Cars turning on to Clinton street from Division st. almost always disregard pedestrians. We definitely need to increase pedestrian safety at this intersection!

I agree this is a terrible intersection and not pedestrian friendly! I also think it would help the situation if the street were definately one-way going South. This would totally eliminate the blind spot and the high speed drivers turning from Division Street onto Clinton!. I am familiar with someone who lives on Clinton Street with two small boys and I have seen cars racing through the intersection from Division onto Clinton.

I was in a car two weeks ago in the front passenger seat seat when my husband was turning onto Clinton from Division from the the west. A car came barreling out of the intersection from Franklin Street onto Division at a high rate of speed and narrowly missed broad-sideing us. So not only is the intersection dangerous for pedestrians but also drivers as the speeding is terrible. I understand the apprehension that pedestrians have in crossing the street and agree that a crossing walk needs to be designated and as the above commenter mentions that making Clinton one way going South would help the situation tremendously.

This intersection is dangerous. I live within the block and have a small baby. The one crosswalk that goes from Clinton to the far side of Division has a HUGE curb and is not stroller friendly/wheel chair accessible. With blindspots from parked cars & several cars speeding I get nervous everytime I dross between Division & Clinton streets since there is no actual cross walk- especially in the evening when it's dark and hard to make eye contact with drivers. With all of the new construction within a block from the intersection traffic will continue to pick up. Cars pull out past the cross walks between Franklin/ Division & Clinton/Division streets because it's impossible to see with parked cars. Please do something to fix traffic flow & make it safer for our small children.

Agree with all the comments above, it's a pending disaster waiting to happen. It's clearly the most poorly designed intersection in Saratoga and will all the work being done in that area, it's only going to get worse. Please address soon.

We are Lily~Saratoga, the bridal store on the corner of Division and Clinton streets. We agree that this is a very dangerous intersection, and witness near-accidents almost every day. Not sure what the solution is, but the problem absolutely needs to be addressed, as we have witnessed the traffic (and speeds) steadily increase over the 8 years we have occupied this space. A three-way stop would help, but how would a stop sign be viewed by cars heading west on Division, as it would be obscured by the cars parked diagonally on Division? A traffic light would be even better.

I agree with that because I usually come from Clinton to that intersection while driving. I hate it. I can see clearly from Division westward but anything coming up from broadway or franklin makes it difficult. The parking areas in front of the funeral home make it even harder to see oncoming traffic. I agree about the crosswalk!

We have lived next to Lily Saratoga on Clinton St. for 14 years and have two young boys. Ever since the boys were babies, and we walked them in a stroller, we have found this intersection to be very hazardous. Cars barrel around the corner going west on Division turning onto Clinton, and do the same thing heading east on Division turning onto Clinton. The added traffic from surrounding construction compounds the issue. When the movie theatre comes to the neighborhood, there will be more even more cars (as well as pedestrians and those on bicycles) navigating this intersection.

I witnessed the two car crash that took place recently from my window. In addition, I witnessed someone last winter barrel around the corner from Divison St heading west turning onto Clinton. The car lost control on the ice coming around the corner, slid across Clinton and collided with a large stone bench in front of our house. The driver put it in reverse and kept going. Had there been a person in this car's path (the bench is right next to our sidewalk), he or she would have been hit. (The impact was significant enough to shift the stone slab which weighs roughly 400 lbs).

There seems to be enough evidence here for a hard look at this intersection. It would be a shame if an individual or individuals were injured (pedestrian or otherwise) as a result of the current traffic pattern.

My wife and I also live nearby and feel this is a significant issue that needs to be addressed. A crosswalk is needed at the very least. Stop signs would be even more effective.

I, too, live nearby and agree with my neighbors that this intersection is an extremely dangerous one. I completely concur with William's analysis, above. Cars on Clinton and Franklin pull way out into the intersection, and often do not stop at all. Visibility is pretty bad because of parked cars, exacerbated by the offset corners.

Stripe crosswalks (on the diagonal if necessary) and repaint "stop lines" perpendicular to the direction of traffic with stop signs and periodically post a police officer at the intersection. This could be a better site for a PS vehicle than taking one away from Broadway. Extend curbs out from corners and install bollards - this can be done without creating a problem for DPW and snow removal or the Elgin Pelican. Make it a European pedestrian friendly intersection.

The Mayor said this is being looked into to get it resolved soon.

Parking should be prohibited for at least two car lengths on the South Side of Division where
Franklin intersects Division at the Stop Sign. There's no point in stopping at the stop sign
because you can't see the traffic on Division until you pull out into the middle of Division
street to see past all the parked cars on both sides. Too bad for the people who are used to parking there- safety takes priority. ALSO eliminate at least two spaces on Division
street on the North side approaching Clinton. These cars, parked lengthwise into the street,
block the view of Clinton St. traffic and pedestrians when approaching Clinton from
the East on Division. Again, too bad for the people used to parking there- it's not safe
for everyone else. Thanks.
