The exact same thing is being done at 239 4th St. They also have taken over four spaces and I believe the permits have expired. I have never seen this done before in the 35 years that I have lived here. Corrections need to be made. In the Old days you went to the parking department and got a hang tag for your vehicle and you scratched off the days and you paid for a new one when the days were up. It's simply a free-for-all now.

Same with the construction on 225 Bay Street, same issue with the work on 8 Erie Street a few years back. Construction Official will pass this off to Parking Authority, a useless entity, who in turn will say it is the Construction Office that needs to address the issue. Either way, this issue will get ignored once issued to Parking Authority.

This is a recurring problem throughout downtown. Permits for construction parkimg are definitely not properly scrutinized, nor are their limits enforced.

I suspect that this frequent misuse is also due, at least in part, to the fact that they are very cheap.

If permitting were properly overseen, including making the permitting a real cost that wasn't just lumped into the overall "miscellaneous" line of a construction budget, it would be taken more seriously. I understand that construction needs to happen and there are times when parking is going to be impacted. I even understand that it can be a long term thing. But the way this is going on in downtown with zero oversight, zero accountability etcetera, on the backs of the people who live here, is absurd. 8 Erie, the Gannon at 231 First...both were equally guilty.

There are sadly departments in this city that simply do not do their job. Parking Enforcement in this area is non-existent so construction permits go unchecked. Construction is a very time-sensitive process - believe me, the contractor knows week-by-week and day-by-day when major deliveries are expected so there is ZERO reason for Jersey City to issue blanket no parking for months at a time. And when you call, you get greeted with rudeness, and the construction department simply hung up before I can even ask a question. If a contractor was charged legitimate prices for blocking 4 -10 spots for months at a time, you would see some adjustment with how many times they request a permit. But that would require someone in Jersey City government to do some degree of work and analysis. Remember, the Parking Authority couldn't even get, nor did they show any urgency, in getting their phone service restored.

Why has there been no acknowledgement from Parking Authority or Traffic Engineering? Parking Authority is completely useless. Where are they in this? Why are they not enforcing anything in downtown? Why are they not ensuring the permits THEY ISSUE are not getting abused by the contractor? Not a peep from the Parking Authority.
