My proposed solution to this issue is an open iinclusive solution and a solution that increases parking revenue (and potentially public transport revenues) at the same time. It is a win win idea and solution I think. Everyone should be allowed to park in the downtown and have the freedom to do so. We have the beautiful Sorensen Parking Station that adds parking revenue to our beautiful city. Why was it built unless it is used by the persons who frequent the downtown and require parking...... We need to encourage the use of Sorensen parking statiion not discourage it. If one can not afford parking downtown then public transport is quite reasonable and a less costly alternative and we could really use the extra fare revenues to keep services in place, no one wants to see empty buses all the time....... There is something wrong when driving your own car to downtown is cheaper than using the parking station or public transport. This solution is a way for parking sand public transport revenues to rise in the city to support our downtown.

Actually, this issue is closed because we have no rights to on street parking as property owners in front of our homes.

A school is a different story. When there are blocks that have paid parking set up adjacent to the next street it is an issue. How do you think its fair that part of Red Deers downtown has paid parking and other streets dont? It needs to be addressed! Your pretty ignorant for closing this topic twice. Who are you the mayor?

I dont think you get it. People that live on a street with paid parking have parking passes put in their windows so they dont have to pay. Everyone is entitled to park infront of their house. You sound like a renter or someone that doesnt have a problem with this situation. Why are you commenting?

I agree this guy does not get it at all. If he wants paid parking on the streets then install paid parking on all streets in red deer everywhere. Tax payers and all home owners would love that.

The parking permit system suggested is a working system in many cities in Alberta. It is not a new or strange concept. It is the norm in cities and towns and how any cities deal with parking issues around their downtown and high demand facilities (such as red deer college downtown & in westpark). Remember it doesn't stop anyone from parking in the area just limits the parking time for non residents in high demand streets and stops those non residents from monopolizing free parking in the street they do not live in and do not contribue and pay taxes in. They are parking there because they want free parking and don't want to pay for parking in pay stations. This is someone who wants to buck the system, not support paid parking in our fair city and downtown. With this attitude like above from Thompson we should just do away with all paid parking stations and make them free and let everyone park for free. Then there is no difference.

I personally have and many others have to! How is this topic not an issue that needs to be addressed? The city is growing! People are looking to save and congest our streets in the downtown area! Its not an open issue...WHY? I want a reason! That is not good neough

This is a parking meter problem. Therefore it should stay open until the city does something.

Councillors Buck Buchanan and Chris Stephan were opposed……. Council’s salary now stands at $53,163 compared with $51,615 last year, while the mayor’s annual salary will run at $89,284 instead of $86,684. The city manager’s salary will rise to $216,216 from $209,919...... Councillors reasoned it is important to remain competitive with the private sector and retain good staff. Coun. Cindy Jefferies said it’s important to remain competitive with other municipalities.”
