Description
On my daily walk, Saturday, April 8, I passed a large group of children playing on the jungle gyms. Concerned, I took a photo. The children inquired as to why I was photographing them. I told them about See Click Fix. They responded that they wanted to pose for a photo. NOTE 2 things in the photo: 1) the wet foot prints 2) the mom in the background/white SUV > she had just pulled up & was yelling at the children to get off of the jungle gyms & out of the gross water.
Recently at a town meeting, a quote stunned me, "...just be glad the water is not in your basements." My response to that is >>> Material items should NOT be more important than the SAFETY of our Children!!!
The Harrison Park playground has not been up to CODE for at least five years and NOW with the pool of water surrounding it, an even greater safety risk. The children of this specific neighborhood are being turned away from outdoor, healthy activities. What will the ultimate result of this be? Certainly, not a positive one.
PLEASE Hammond, we MUST find the MEANS to HELP HARRISON PARK be SAFE for the Children!

I am so saddened. HARRISON PARK is beautiful and could be AMAZING and FUN. Harrison Park is neglected. Please, Mayor & Park District personnel, do not neglect Harrison Park.
I heard a rumor that the Park is going to become the location of Hammond High and this is the reason it has been ignored since the BEAUTIFUL TENNIS COURTS. Please recognize, that meanwhile children break their bones (my son included) on the jungle gyms, etc.
I specifically bought my home because of the park and would be so very, very SAD to see a beautiful PARK WITH SO MUCH HISTORY be paved over.
PLEASE CARE. Thank you sincerely for your attention.

I am personally offering volunteer services of any kind; clean up, fundraising, recycling, etc.
So many people drive by Harrison Park on their way to the train station/downtown Hammond. It would be so very nice for people to see that the city cares about the community.
The current jungle gyms seriously need to be replaced and soft ground added (artificial playground grass is amazing & a reasonable price.) The teens could use that old slab of cement to be repaved and some basketball nets installed.
Thank you for your time and your serious consideration!

So very many drive past it Monday > Friday on their way to/fro the train station. Make Harrison Park VISIBLY beautiful and people will want to utilize it; new benches on Hohman, perhaps raised flower beds like we used to have years ago. Again, I am willing to HEAD a Volunteer Crew for whatever the city would like to implement to make HARRISON PARK beautiful.

The benchs > commission an artist to paint & create.
Add flowers/shrubs along Hohman Ave where so many drive by to get to South Shore train.
Garbage receptacles are eyesores & no recycling (crazy in this day & age).
And, most important the NOT-up-to-CODE Jungle Gyms must be replaced for the safety of our children.
Please someone recognize the great LoVE for this park that is being neglected.
Thank you for your serious consideration!
