Drivers on 9th St N are required to stop. Many drivers on the smaller Daniel street stop unnecessarily. It is time to change this to an official four-way stop intersection. Would be less confusing and safer.
Arlington County DES studied this location in 2010 and it did not meet the required warrants to install an all-way stop. Traffic conditions have not changed significantly since then and it would not meet the requirements today. There is an upcoming Neighborhood Conservation project going to construction in the summer that will install curb extensions at this intersection , improve the sidewalks, and add landscaping and neighborhood gateway treatments.
Then change the stop to N. Daniel St. It is the smaller of the two (by 5 feet). Many drivers stop at the larger, and busier, street even though they don't have the sign.
Good Morning,
N Daniel St carries more traffic than 9th St N. Between that, the relatively minor collision history, and the lack of sight distance restrictions, there is no demonstrated need to change the control. With impending construction at the intersection, any need for a change should be evaluated after the work is complete.
Thank you.
