Description
It seems to be very dangerous to cross to Exchange St, when walking South from S Washington St. This is one of the two major detours to get to the T station. A pedestrian's ability to see oncoming traffic, to cross Exchange is almost non-existent due to the mason Bldg construction, and the amount of public space they wee allowed to utilize.
With this being a major detour route to get to the T, can something be done to make it a little safer?

Thank you Lt. It appears that I only use the crossing around the evening rush hour, and the detail and construction were done for the day. Crossing from the East side is the only available option, as the construction site also took the west side sidewalk and parking lanes. And it appears that only a couple of pieces of the green cloth were removed. Unfortunately this does not do much as the green cloth that remains still impedes any view when crossing from the West side of Washington.
If all the green cloth were removed, then some reasonable visibility would be provided. Maybe a simple plastic crosswalk safety sign - the ones with a rubber base and stand on their own - would be helpful to warn drivers that it is a pedestrian crossing. Because with a crosswalk, how would they know?

For some reason, neither the new development at 150 Exchange Street not the Masonic building development were required to install a crosswalk across Washinton Street.
When all is said and done the only crosswalks across Washington will be a block away at Middlesex and also at Abbott.
We need to hold developers to a higher standard.

More of the green cloth has been removed from the fence. Also, I have placed a stand alone pedestrian crossing sign on Exchange Street at that intersection. This should help pedestrians and motorists.
As far as the "re-stripping crosswalks" is concerned, my guess would be because of the close proximity to the MBTA as well as the time frame to complete the project. The new City hall is a 3 year project that will effect far more day to day activities. This would be more of a question for inspections/permits/planning etc...

Thank you for the standalone crossing sign.
Because of the angle, any piece of green cloth is going to block seeing any cars coming. I will have to take a look.
Another option would be a STOP sign at the end of the fence for Exchange St traffic.
