These fixes are terrible. The contractors who are hired to dig and then fix our streets should be held to a high standard. Do it once and do it right, not quick and dirty. DPW should have much higher standards.

agreed, take some honor in doing a job right the first time. no one should have to redo this simple task.taxes pay for this, the cities public works director will fix it if it becomes a bicycle problem though.

Going to have to agree - some of the patches I've seen in the city have been just fine, while others have been completely awful. It seems to be a mixed bag, although I'm also wondering if they were hoping conditions during paving (humidity, rain, etc.) would even things out.

Here's a thought. Maybe these patches are temporary because the city couldn't get hot asphalt or it was after hours and couldn't do the concrete sidewalks. Maybe with some patience the city will do a permanent fix that is to everyone's liking. If only the water and street departments were so understaffed they could please the city better

Thank you for your inquiry on this existing temporary patch of our roadway, curb or sidewalk. We understand how it must look when we aren’t able to return to these locations as quickly as we all would like to in order to replace those surfaces permanently. And admittedly, we do still have more of a backlog than we would like at this time of the year due to the large number of capital projects that are happening throughout the City that involve both the Water Resources and Street Maintenance Divisions who typically work as a team to tackle these temporary curbs, sidewalks and asphalt patches.

We will be continuing to work with our colleagues in the Street Maintenance Division (who are responsible for concrete work) to try to permanently repair as many of the curb and sidewalk sections as possible this fall. They have informed us that they will be starting this concrete work in the coming week.

As for the roadway temporary asphalt patches, the Water Resources Division is working to shift staff resources (a challenge with the Water Capital projects going on) and/or hire a paving contractor (most likely) to lay down permanent hot-mix (a different material that our temporary patches) asphalt patches. Our goal is to address the patch backlog prior to the winter, but at a minimum we will be addressing the highest priority patches – with a focus on those on higher volume roads or where the patch is more fully in the travel way.

Additionally, we are working internally to figure out how we can better narrow the gap between the original work with its temporary patch and the implementation of the final permanent patch.

Field Services reports the sidewalk has been repaired permanently by Streets and the water patch remains temporary as we wait for contractor bids to come in. Thank you.

Unfortunately, the completion date of this request has been extended. The subzero temperatures we experienced in November and December delayed our paving operation and the list of patches needing final repair was not completed. This location will receive priority when paving commences in the Spring. We appreciate your patience.
