It would be better if the right turn lane was also the straight ahead lane, to allow traffic to clear the intersection.

The lane configuration is set up to have an exclusive right turn lane due to the traffic volumes at this intersection. In the PM peak hour approximately 63% of the vehicles are turning right, 34% are traveling straight and less than 3% are turning left. By giving the left turn lane and exclusive lane that would be putting 97% of the vehicles in one lane and severely reducing the capacity benefit of allowing a right on red movement at this intersection.

It has not been my experience 63% of the vehicles are turning right. Even so, the exclusive right turn lane is putting 40% of the vehicles behind one car turning left which has to yield to oncoming traffic, causing light cycle delays. Right on red movement is only half of the traffic pattern. The other half is invariably delayed by vehicles turning left.

Longer light cycles during peak hours, especially 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. would resolve the issue. There is more traffic on Corporate Center Drive than Trinity Road at peak hours.
