I come through the same intersection on a regular basis and have noticed that the speed/red light camera at the intersection seems to flash in an erratic manner. Several times it seemed to be flashing with nothing moving while I was waiting to turn left onto Stevens Forest from eastbound Broken Land Parkway.

After investigating the traffic signal control equipment at the subject intersection, we found that the scenario described above (phase for northbound Stevens Forest skipped and not served until the next cycle) can indeed occur, given a very specific set of conditions that are unique within the county to this particular signal. We are investigating some potential solutions and will update this issue with our findings. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

I agree with Gianna. The traffic camera flashes at inappropriate times. Maybe you just want drivers to think there might be a camera there?

The Red Light Camera Program is administered by the Police Department (not Traffic Engineering). I'll go ahead and forward the comments regarding the "rogue" camera flashes to their office, but if you want to follow up on the matter, you will need to do so directly with them via the points of contact listed at: https://www.howardcountymd.gov/Departments/Police/Traffic-Safety/Red-Light-Camera-Program.

In the meantime, this issue will remain open to track the original matter regarding the traffic signals.

Thanks for reporting the rogue flashing camera to the police department. I drove westbound through the intersection of Broken Land Parkway and Stevens Forest Road yesterday around 1:45. The light was green and the camera flashed several times as I passed through heading toward Route 29. I was not aware of any violations by other vehicles. This rogue flashing has been going on for a long time.

Referring to my original complaint on 01/16/2018 and the response by Craig Hinners on 01/19/2018, this issue has never been resolved. We were supposed to be updated with potential solutions. I see none listed in this record. I know this only affects people coming out of the Allview neighborhood and gas station customers, but it is frustrating to sit at a light and watch the signal pass you by. This has nothing to do with the red light camera flashing.

I do not travel through this intersection as much as before, but recently I experienced the same problem I do not think that the situation has been corrected. Please see my "Reopened" comment from 02/25/20.
