Description

I was walking on the path by Lake Merritt, close to where Bellevue meets Staten but closer to the water. Under the trees, there were two tents set up. I am wary of a tent city popping up as my children walk here frequently and I believe it could be a safety issue. Can you please send someone to tell the people they cannot just set up a tent there?

I’ve been emailing and calling Joe DeVries for months with no reply.
I’ve been emailing Perrodin - the police force is only concerned with safety - they don’t enforce the laws around Lake Merritt.
Saw two new tents behind Fairyland today - right behind the OPD horse stables.

Omg, this is bad!!!! Where and who we can contact! We can’t just let them move in like that. It’s crazy that we don’t have any rules or law against homeless here

These tents need to be removed, along with those set up against the fence around "The Gardens" in the area across the street from the Arts and Nature Center for Children. Word has it that the city won't act on encampments without 40 complaints. "Please Email Joe Devries @ jdevries@oaklandnet.com and Sgt.John Perrodin @ jperrodin@oaklandnet.com for action!

Thanks, AP and Watchdog. I will submit photos and complains again tonight. No, they can’t set up their tents like that. They can’t turn this neighorbhood into another tent city! The crime and other issues will follow those homeless people.

Our street cleaning volunteers have removing and bagging as trash all un-occupied campsites. Its been working. Were down from nearly 50 campers to 6 in the Dimond Dist.

I have emailed complaints concerning a lot of illegal camp sites to Joe Devries in the past with little luck. I will email again to see if we can hit 40 +.

tents are still there and the trash around them is growing. this is ridiculous. i almost got a ticket and fine a few years ago for using the wrong kind of grill for a picnic by the lake and now people can set up camp all around the lake with no consequences.
