I would like to add that Jackson is also dangerous for cyclists, and in my opinion from my experience as a resident of this neighborhood for 3 years, this isn't just a street paving issue but also an issue of public safety that should be addressed as soon as possible. As a resident of the parallel section of Madison st, I can say it is difficult and dangerous to ride down Jackson, which makes it hard to cycle north or downtown as Madison is a one way and riding onto 14th to get onto lakeside is extremely busy and requires two unprotected left turns. I invite the officials responsible for making decisions about road repair to get In touch with me - I can even provide bikes and helmets to take you on a 5 minute bike tour of the block (which houses 100s if not 1000s of oakland's downtown residents), since understanding just how terrible jackson street is for pedestrians and cyclists can be difficult to imagine without firsthand experience and from the vantage point only of trying to understand from offices using computers. I would love to help work together with the city to solve this problem!
I would also be happy to organize a neighborhood bake sale to gather funding for repairing the rest of the downtown stretch of Jackson st ASAP!
