Description
A homeless encampment has started again under the BART tracks and 24 overpass on both sides of 55th St. and is quickly becoming a problem. Most of the activity under the tracks is on the embankment, but it's spread to the sidewalks as well.
There are charcoal BBQs, tarps and blankets tied to the above BART tracks and freeway overpass, a collection of bicycles has started to accumulate along with mounds of trash and furniture. More distressing is the proliferation of used hypodermic needles and human excrement.
It goes without saying, these folks need and deserve shelter. However, this is a major thoroughfare from Telegraph and surrounding neighborhoods, directly on the AC Transit line and a heavily trafficked walking route.
