one would think riding an ATV up and down the street and sidewalks would warrant at least a drive by but we all know the police union is trying to figure out a way the cops can ignore the laws they are supposed to uphold so they can stay safe as librarians. I'm just waiting to hear what the cops have to say, enough of this whole passing the buck(its the politicians fault and they need to fix it) BS that we seem to lap up like good the good union supporting Democrat dogs we are .
many policemen prefer to stand next to street repair sites to build pension benefits. too few of them seem to care about what is important to community. i mean how hard is it to catch these ATVs. These kids are completely predictable in their behavior and should be easy to catch, like fish in a barrel. if the nhpd does not see any violations in this behavior i am happy to take an afternoon off from flipping my burgers and explain....
The police have no obligation to protect you, or do anything; often, the police and criminals are indistinguishable. People need to get over the hero worship of guys in uniforms.

the former Sgt Zona and still in command Sgt D'agastino have been tireless in their efforts to stop the ATVs and dirtbikes, to give credit where credit is due. Stopping and arresting is actually incredibly difficult; the cities of Baltimore and Philadelphia have beeen trying for 15 years to figure out a successful strategy. D'Agostino and Zona were successful at tracking the bikes back to owners and confiscating, but only $ 80 to get the bike back under present law and judges are very lenient when charges are brought. That's why now a bill in CT state senate to increase fine/retrieval fee to $2000, which may help to get the bikes off the street. But also need REAL LEADERSHIP from POLICE CHIEF and MAYOR on this issue. They are so far SILENT.
I am closing dirt bike/ATV complaints that pre-date the conclusion of the police undercover operation (see www.newhavenindependent.org/index.php/archives/entry/9_arrested_in_dirt_bike_sting/). I do not expect the dirt bike/ATV issue to be completely solved, but it will be helpful to policing efforts to distinguish new reports from those before last month's operation. The operation was not a one-off effort to address this issue, and information reported in new issues is helpful.
Please open up new SCF issues as dirt bike/ATV issues re-occur.
