The state of CT just shot down red light cameras AGAIN due to "privacy" concerns lodged by the ACLU. If you want to help our state get RLC's, do what you can to help your neighbors get legislation passed next time. I feel like red light runners violate MY civil right to safe roads, and the right to be able to not get plowed into and injured or killed by one of them! Also, help put pressure on the city and state to install more traffic calming measures and better light timing AND NHPD enforcement of scofflaw drivers. I feel like it's the wild west here, because the police don;t enforce. Another reason why the NHPD might not ticket as much as they could.should is that a large percentage of ticket revenue goes to Hartford, and is not retained locally. Help push legislation to get a larger percentage, if not all, of ticket revenue to stay local, and perhaps the NHPD would fine that it would be a worthy thing to do, to ticket more.

What puzzled me is why the NAACP opposed the traffic cams as well. Anyone??? As for privacy concerns, everyone picks their noses and pulls bunched undergarments from our butt cheeks, so - wth? The only people concerned are criminals - street gang drug dealers and pimps who are busy conducting their "bidness."

Running of red lights and stop signs in New Haven is stunning and blatant. Turning right on red when the signs clearly forbid is upsettingly routine. Again, it is blatant, particularly given that it occurs all day right around the corner from the police station at the Knights of Columbus museum.

I see it every day in New Haven.Running lights and stop signs,driving on the wrong side of the road to avoid backed up traffic,passing on the right.Red light cameras don't work and you can't have one at every traffic light and stop sign throughout the city.I think the problem is enforcement by the police in New Haven.Like many other violations that go on every day the police ignore them or just don't care enough to be on the lookout.It's all gone on for so long that its an accepted way to drive in New Haven.

Did you ever wonder how much it costs to put that camera up and maintain it and all of the associated equipment? More than enough to hire another cop.
Red light cameras aren't used in the State of Connecticut because they are illegal under the CT Statutes, not because of "privacy concerns"....

To another commuter:
Cameras could be cheaper than cops. No healthcare, overtime, union dues, phantom sick days, or pensions. The full cost of an officer if you count everything in could be 50-100k a year. I estimate an economy model camera at most 5-10k, but someone can correct me if I am wrong. So why are cameras illegal do you think?

I love it when people close an issue despite the fact that it is not resolved. Reopening this, and let's see the NHPD traffic enforcement move away from downtown and up Whalley Ave. Fact is, ticketing drivers for moving violations is an excellent way to catch criminals at the same time (warrants, etc). This, I suspect, is the REAL reason that people hate the idea.
