  All online companies or banks charge these fees when using credit cards. When you use your credit card at businesses or restaurants that business is also charged that fee from the credit card companies, and the business in turn charges that fee in the price of whatever you are purchasing instead of charging it as a separate charge. The City cannot absorb those fees as other businesses can.

  I realize that fees are charged to process credit card payments. My point is that municipalities can obtain better terms to process credit card payments for tax collection than the current fee of 2.95% being charged by the existing contracted vendor.

  This is the case because:

  1. Framingham is a municipality which is considered a low risk client, and

  2. The average payment collected is a high amount.

  I will do some research to investigate the fees and process iused by other municipalities.for comparison.
