The inspector has been following up with the owner and property management company regularly.
The management company has been cooperative. We received a report from them in August that they had a contractor set to do the Plexiglas work but they backed out and they had to do put the job out for bid before they could get the work done. The work was slower than we expected but they completed the work for October.
The property was marketed for sale and was eligible for a waiver of the vacant building fee. The building deficiencies like the roof problems resulted in the waiver not being granted. The full amount of the $500 Vacant Building fees are all current for each quarter that the building was not occupied. The building is secure and is checked regularly by Code Enforcement Staff.
I did see people working this afternoon. I hope they fix the roof holes very soon; it was too dark to see when I went by last. Unfortunately, the problems were apparent in May, I believe, long before it was reported to SCF in August. I don't think it should take until November to get them addressed. That's a lot of time without any real consequence .The ordinance calls for fines for the failure to comply with orders in the time required and clearly they failed to do that.
Thanks Ted. I hope you spin by on your trips in our neighborhood because I think the edges of the hole are susceptible to decaying and given the history it is not clear new things won't arise. Do you know when the sale is to be completed? Gene
The property management covered the hole as requested. There is a greater safety issue than the edge of the hole. The request has been satisfied by this department and this issue is closed.
