Description
Local fitness business blocks the only handicap ramp and sidewalk from 12th Ave NE parking lot to the public restrooms, tennis court and seawall walking trail, six days a week in the mornings. Groups like USAFit use the sidewalk to lay out mats, weights and training equipment blocking handicap access from the parking lot to the recreation and restroom area between Flora Wylie Park and Gizella Kopsick Arboretum. Was assisting a paraplegic at the North Shore Aquatic public restroom next to the kids seawall playground (he couldn't maneuver his wheel chair into the raised restroom as he couldn't hold the door open and swing his chair into the doorway from the small outside landing). Told him about the restrooms by the 12th Ave Tennis Courts, but he said he can never pass all the exercise people and equipment on the only wheelchair accessible sidewalk. Sad!! He called the Parks Department to complain but was told that USAFit had a permit to occupy the sidewalk.

"Doing Things for You?" Really. So the concerned person opening this legitimate issue opens it with the city -- who by "verified official" supposedly refers this to the county, who then closes it and then refers it back to the city where it was in the first place. If you want a big lawsuit on your hands just keep going the way you're going. Ignore or deny disability access .... and raise our taxes again to pay for the lawsuits that result from these kinds of actions. Not to mention that the handling (closing) of this issue doesn't help the person who is disabled and simply trying to get access to a restroom. This is inhumane to say the least.
So now I am assuming that I can "get a permit" to use all the handicap/disabled parking spaces in the parking lot by the tennis courts or the pool any time I want in order to make money for my own business? I am reopening this issue in hopes that a "verified city official" looks into the matter instead of referring it to another government entity who will then close it and circle it back to St. Pete who will ignore it once again.
