Description
There's a stop sign at Toll House Road turning onto Old Columbia Pike. At peak hours in the morning and afternoon, it's impossible to make the right turn because traffic on Old Columbia Pike is heavy. Once or twice a week, the backup on Toll House Road is over half a mile long. It took more than 15 minutes for a vehicle to make that right turn. When the Old Ellicott City area roads are closed for heavy rainfall, the problem is even worse. Also because of traffic jam, it's hard to see cars coming to make turns either way. There needs to be three-way stop signs or traffic lights to change the traffic pattern. The lights at Old Columbia Pike and 103 cross also need to give more time to traffic on Old Columbia Pike.

Thank you for contacting DPW-Traffic Division about the intersection of Tollhouse Road and Old Columbia Pike and we would be glad to assist you with the enquiry.
Our observations indicates the queues formed along Toll House Rd extended about 800 feet from the stop line and it takes on an average 3-4 minutes for a vehicle to clear the intersection to make the right turn onto Old Columbia Pike. Observations also indicated the queues to be minimal beyond rush hours. At this time, no additional improvements are recommended at this time.
Once again, thank you bringing this matter to our attention and we will continue to monitor the intersection for future improvements. Thank you for reporting your issue/request to the Howard County Department of Public Works\Traffic Engineering Division. This issue has been addressed and will be closed in Tell HoCo. If you require more information, please contact Department of Public Works Highways office 410-313-2430.
