How are people suppose to manage with this on the sidewalks of the city? It is our right to use these public
walkways, but is it their right to block others from doing so? I hope that the Police and Mayor are taking this seriously, because it's really getting way out of control. The homeless are even stopping some folks from using the stairways that lead down to the Duwamish River. They're claiming that the stairs is their territory and are
refusing to move for foot traffic. Just who's right and who's wrong? Eh?
I don't doubt it. They have been seen around my complex taking things hanging on the balcony railings. Plus also stealing bicycles, Graco strollers and basically anything they can get there grubby hands on. I think these victims of theft should ask the Mayor for a replacement, since he doesn't seem to think it's not important.
It seems out tax dollars spent on these nice sidewalks are so that people can camp and park on them.
I agree it seems the mayor police or city council care about these issues.
It sure looks ugly for people driving down a main thoroughfare to see this especially those passing through. Why try to make our community look nice when this stuff is allowed.
Jose, by the sound of it and the way you worded yourself, it sounds like you support the homeless and the ugliness that they bring to our city. If you're against them, you better take a second look at what you wrote. Who's side you on anyway? By the sound of it, you're just encouraging them to continue to trash the city.
Success story The city is clearing bushes around Tubeart. Boeing access Rd. The person living under billboard has finally cleared out. This should help with the panhandling in the intersection. I’m tired of the traffic problems the panhandling are causing.
I think the question remains--where did she move to and what services were offered to her to keep her off the streets and a threat to neighborhoods?
I also want to address the comment about the Mayor doing something about these issues. First we have a CITY MANAGER who is suppose to be managing these departments. Is he doing his job ??
Second, the council needs to less passive and pass Ordinances that the City officials can act on. Making excuses for peoples behavior doesn't solve problems and causes divisiveness among the citizens. If we are going to pass Ordinances and Laws let's make them enforceable and punishable . If we are going to give staff and our officers responsibility then let's give them authority.
I believe you got the right idea Sharon Mann. How do we get the City Manager and City Officials to enforce these ordinances and laws ? Do they exist at all? Or are there petitions that need signing in order for them to take notice. I believe most of the citizens of the city would be happy to give their signatures on such a petition and rid the city of any more littering and crime. I agree that the homeless are being sheltered by the city and mental health professionals and not really applying any pressure to make them leave. Maybe a group of us should meet with the mayor and City Manager in person and express our dislikes and what they should really do about the homeless. Visiting their campsites isn't going to do any good whatsoever. ACTION is what needs to be taken.
