This issue is apparently still being ignored.

I could just be naive, but can anyone explain why something so simple as getting the responsible party or parties to turn on the light switch seem to be beyond the reach of the city?

This block remains in the dark after sunset. Who would have thought that an issue so seemingly simple would prove nearly impossible for the city to resolve?

We're once again in the time of year when days are shorter, and, still, nothing has been done about turning on lights in this block. The Marriott across the street has no street lighting, so there are a couple of blocks that are pretty dark. Considering recent crime reports around the Old Courthouse on the Square, and the fact that this area is one block away, it would seem to be in the interest of all concerned to get the lights turned on. The responsible party has to be either Georgia Power or Town Center II, so this problem seems easily solvable. But, thus far, it has proven to be beyond the city's ability to address.

The lights in the street section just to the north, beside the Bank of America building, are also out. Those particular lights appear to be on the property occupied by the bank, not in the public right-of-way. But they could be either the property owner's or the bank's responsibility to turn on at night. Either way, this makes for two consecutive blocks of downtown Clairemont that are in the dark after sunset.

The last time I was there after dark, the street lights were still out. With the time change coming in October, darkness in that block will matter more. The absence of working lights in the block to the north became irrelevant once demolition commenced. Maybe the new development on the former Bank of America space will have working street lights. With lots of folks living on the site, maybe even the block to the south, which has been in the dark for years, will get some attention.

Here we still are, with a block that is dark after the sun goes down. Since it appears that the party responsible for turning on the lights has to be either the owner of Town Center Two or Georgia Power, one wonders why it is so difficult for the city to determine which one it is and request that action be taken.

The years go by, but the one constant is that the city completely ignores this situation which should be simple to fix. No wonder that bigger problems, like hazardous sidewalks, are never addressed.

We are nearing the time change, and, once again, nothing has been done about turning these lights on for the longer nights ahead. So I will keep naming the problem and the city will keep ignoring me.

Doing some system maintenance and found this open ticket regarding street lights in the 100 block of Clairemont Avenue. The lamps in the photo are gas lamps. I will research lighting options for this block.

The city has contracted with Georgia Power to replace the lights. The new poles have been ordered. I will seek an update from Georgia Power.
