Wires are still there. I've noticed several places around my neighborhood with similar situations. What causes this? Whose job is it to fix these problems? City of New Haven? The companies or utilities that installed them in the first place? Whoever cut them loose and piled them on the ground? Are they safe? Are companies, utilities or the City simply ignoring them as too minor a problem to care about?
Please call in to Police non-emergency at 203-946-6316. Someone will be dispatched to make sure it is not an electrical wire, and then will contact the appropriate company (Comcast, AT&T) to address. Because of the risk that it is an electrical wire, please call all of these in instead of a SCF post - we are getting quicker about checking, but a downed wire should be handled immediately.
Thanks for the info, but why was the issue ignored for almost a month? There are wires down like this all over the neighborhood; how come they are not addressed sooner? I thought public agencies monitored these posts for relevant issues? If they're not paying attention to these posts, why bother to report them. I know LCI is responsive, but other City agencies don't seem to pay much attention to the issues that citizens report on SFC.
SCF happened to the City; the City didn't set up SCF as a way of getting information to us. Because it seems like a popular way of reporting issues, we have responded - starting with the most commonly reported issues (things like potholes and tree trimming first, then LCI issues and clogged storm drains, and finally less common issues like downed wires that are not even the City's responsibility to fix). We are committed to making sure issues that are the City's responsibility that are reported to SCF will now get to the correct person to address, but that has meant committing staff time and getting many, many different agencies to commit to this even when only a couple of issues come there way.
PD responded last night and did not find the wire. It was after dark when they responded, though, so if it is still down, please get us the pole number to make sure they don't overlook it when responding and call it in to 203-946-6316.

I've just sent this issue along to dispatch.
