Thank you for taking the time to report your pedestrian crossing concerns along Oxbo Road near Dobbs Drive in the vicinity of the Vickery Creek Trail and Waller Park Trail, and we apologize for the delayed response.
City staff acknowledges that this area represents an ideal connection point within the City’s trail system, and is aware that there is not a designated pedestrian crossing system between the two trails. Unfortunately, the intersection of Oxbo Road and Dobbs Drive has very old infrastructure, and the surrounding sidewalks have not yet been upgraded to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. City staff recognizes these needs, and intends to construct the needed upgrades as part of the adjacent future Oxbo Bridge replacement project. The City also cannot establish a new marked crosswalk at this time (as the crosswalk would not have ADA-compliant ramps), or install rectangular rapid flashing beacons without an ADA accessible route with ramps present, however, in the interim, staff will review and install appropriate general pedestrian warning signs as warranted.
We appreciate your interest in pedestrian safety for your community.
