Please will someone at the county level keep us posted on the clean up efforts from the catastrophic sewage spill on Palm Sunday, Apr. 14th? This is the largest recorded spill in the entire State of Florida so far this year. How many gallons flowed into Lake Maggorie, and what is being done to de-contaminate the llake? Boyd Hill Nature Preserve wildlife, flora and fauna will be poisoned by this hazardous spill if not de-contaminated soon!

Update from Water Resources: The unauthorized discharge on Sunday 4/14 was the result of a failure of a 12 inch reclaimed water distribution main. Currently, we are investigating the cause and have, for some time, been developing a plan to reduce the likelihood and impact of pipe failures in both our reclaimed and potable water distribution systems.
It is important to note that this was not wastewater. This was a reclaimed water pipe, the same water that the residents and golf course uses to irrigate turf and landscape in the area. The DEP permits the Country Club golf course, south of Lake Maggiore, to fill ponds with upwards of 400,000 gallons per day of reclaimed water. This water is then used for irrigation purposes at the golf course.
Please know we are sampling the water in Lake Maggiore and the Nitrogen as well as Bacteria results are all within background levels. Our environmental compliance division is seeing no impacts to the receiving water. A link to our sampling map is listed below.
