That sign shouldn't be there. It's not a major crossing, and it's a hazard. People regularly stop to let the side street traffic in.
The sign is a danger and I believe it's there because of one party only -- the newest property on the corner.

Try driving through the intersection and you'll find out. The fact is, the sign does not belong there. Cars entering from the side streets, and pedestrians who cross anywhere on the block, should observe proper traffic protocols and wait for traffic to clear to enter the intersection.

Try living on the block and walking on the block and trying to cross the street on the block. Maybe then you’ll understand why the signs are there. Where do you want the cars to enter from? When do you expect pedestrians to cross if nobody ever lets them go? I fail to see how the stop sign is responsible for any of the issues you are identifying.

Thank you! The sign not only encourages irresponsible crossing, it increases the issue of traffic backing up from Charlotte Circle (!&9) and into St. Paul's Ave. and Tonnele, all the way up to JFK, both ways.

Traffic isn't backing up because people are crossing the street. Traffic backs up because there are too many cars.

No, agreed -- the pedestrians don't cause cars to back up. They just cause a hazard to themselves and other because they cross inappropriately in the middle of the block, in face of oncoming cars. It's the stop sign that contributes to the traffic backup.
This originates with the refusal of the city to work with the county and state to have signals along Tonnele Ave. appropriately timed to facilitate smooth and efficient movement of traffic. Apparently it is just too much trouble for city Traffic department to work with two other agencies on behalf of motorists and residents in the neighborhood.

New comment: trucks are having a very hard time turning the corner from Tonnele southbound onto St. Paul's Ave. westbound -- they come into the turning lane for eastbound traffic on a regular basis. Much as I hate to say it, the first parking space on St. Paul's Ave. north side should be eliminated to give room to turn. As it is, cars waiting to turn onto Tonnele north from St. Paul's eastbound regularly have to back up to give them room to turn.
They are also the ones who keep knocking the signal over.

Has anyone noticed the two new mini traffic circle / roundabouts installed recently at Liberty and Skillman on St. Pauls?
Apparently JC Traffic doesn't deem it important to inform us of the changes.

The two new mini roundabouts are a great move. Finally seeing cars not driving recklessly and seeing cars yield to pedestrians. City also notified local residents before undertaking the pilot and the info is also publicly available on the city’s website.

This is a pilot project and it doesn’t change any traffic patterns, unlike when JC traffic failed to inform people about the change in direction on Washburn Avenue.

This safety issue has been addressed at several community meetings and proposals for improvements have been reviewed by the community and the City Council. The Department is developing construction and striping plans for traffic calming installation and repaving of this street in summer 2023. This item will be closed at this time.
