What do people of G'ville have to do to solve this problem of the ever migrating homeless camp? It's a waste of our time and tax payer dollars sending GPD and Code enforcement out every 3 days to clear this up. I can't even fathom the man hours and money that are thrown at this issue. What can we do to solve this never ending energy and money drain?

A service request (3571) for the removal of the litter and debris has been submitted to our Road and Bridge Department. Our office will also make contact with law enforcement regarding the issue that is occurring, being that the litter isn't happening simultaneously and is the result of people staging there for several hours a day.

You mean " IS happening simultaneously"? It's definitely happening because of the people that sit there all day begging and drinking and eating and smoking.

Thank you for pointing out the error in the previous sentence, you are absolutely correct, the correct word that should have been "is" instead of "isn't". However, the remainder of the sentence clearly explains that this office is aware that the litter is the result of "people staging there for several hours a day". We have also been working with the City of Gainesville to see if their codes enforcement department needs to become involved. Despite the county owning the right of way on NE 16th Ave, the businesses affected by this issue are still within the city limits. Overall, it would be most appropriate for law enforcement to be involved with telling the inhabitants of the area that they are not allowed to be there. In addition to our office notifying them of this issue, you are more than welcome to call the non-emergency help-line at 352-955-1818 to report the issue as well.
Again, our office is open Monday through Thursday from 7am until 5:30pm should you have any additional questions or concerns.

Ha! Well just between us I don't think anyone really believes this is an ACC issue. They are just tired of dealing with it and passed the buck on to you. This is a "Dignity" Villiage issue. Anyone that works trying to police that situation out there knows they come into G'ville and beg and steal all day to buy "supplies" for their nights out there. It's turned into an all night club out there.

This is a homeless population issue and it's not GPD's responsibility to try and control the messy situation create by bad city policy. Fix the problem at City Hall. Make it illegal to pass money from an automobile to a person unless that person is at a legally registered business or hold a permit for fund raising. When the money dries up, the problem will solve itself.

This situation is ongoing and the City of Gainesville is still researching potential solutions. GPD will continue to monitor the area and respond accordingly.
