What is "C" talking about, regarding a little common sense? None of us have x-ray vision, and cedars are evergreen - so it doesn't get better in winter.

My sister had an accident at this intersection a couple of years ago. They trimmed the bushes then, but now they've grown back.

I asked the city to look into this last spring, but nothing was done.....there will be an accident there and it could be avoided with the trees being removed.

Soon there will be snowbanks compounding the Cedar issue - how many accidents will occur before this is addressed?

There is a Southwest Neighborhood Association on Tuesday night January 11, 7PM at Saratoga Eagle in the Grande Industrial Park (behind Quad and Ball). This group has made countless improvements in the neighborhood and they would be more than willing to help with the cedar trees. There are also some shrubs at another nearby intersection that need attention.
The meeting will also inform residents about "Neighborhood Watch". This group is said to be the largest Watch group in the country.

This area has been reported several times and still nothing is done. Did anyone from the city look into this intersection problem???

The cedars don't need to be cut down. They just need pruning - removal of the lower branches. Start at the bottom and neatly remove the obstructing branches until, when you sit in the car, you can see the traffic coming. I will be glad to help with this task. Call me when you get permission to trim.

They are on city right of way - I do not understand how they can allow this.

I just called DPW and a work order is being written for the "tree man" to examine and trim the cedar trees.
Now lets all work together to only post signs (garage sale/lost dogs/cats) on their own stakes. Putting them on the street sign poles is against the law. Lets all take time to pick up litter and butts thrown by thoughtless individuals.
This neighborhood has really improved and it takes many caring residents to keep it that way. The people who care about the cedar trees blocking the sight-line are the same people who make a neighborhood great. Thanks!

Yea Molly.....Now let's hope the city and the "tree man" cuts them DOWN. I also agree, let's all keep the Crest like a nice neighborhood should look!

I specifically asked DPW if they could just trim them up to about 5 or 6 feet. If that doesn't look good they will have to be removed. That is sad because every entry to our neighborhood should have trees. Every house in our neighborhood should have a street tree. Trees add value to a property and to a neighborhood.

While cedars can be beautiful, these particular trees are very unattractive. And no matter what they look like, an injured or dead motorist/pedestrian is certainly a larger tragedy that the loss of two replaceable shrubs.

It boils down to the fact that they are poorly located - too close to each road and there is no where to plw the snow except into a big pile that totally blocks views from both directions

I think they're gone!?! I did a double take this morning as I was turning left from Hathorn onto Hutchins Rd. I'll verify later tonight.

Thank you to the courageous neighbor who got this done. Bottom line, the shrubs/trees were increasingly blocking the view of oncoming traffic speeding down Hutchins Rd. Now can we focus on the shrub that is re - growing at the corner of Vichy and Hathorn. It also was planted in the city right-of-way and, as it grows, it blocks the view of oncoming Hathorn traffic.
Thanks to all who supported the Hathorn/Hutchins project. Now please call DPW and request that the Vichy/Hathorn bush also be removed .
ps. It would be nice to have proper city street trees planted to beautify our neighborhood. DPW is making a list of requests for the fall planting so call and get on the list.
