My neighbor's tree was terribly trimmed a couple years ago & she received zero notice or consultation. I would hate to look down Rumson's viewshed and see every tree limb that is hanging out by a powerline cutback either.

Fact of the matter is CoR will continue to close out any issue like potholes on Raleigh Blvd since that road is NCDOT's responsibility, street lights, ect.

If there is a specific area near a pole that is a concern then try reporting the pole's ID thru Duke's repair request by selecting 'Other' and explaining the situation directly:

Trees were pruned the year I moved in (1999 corner of Colleton & Pelham Rd), haven't seen them back .

This has been referred to the appropriate department for review, an update will be posted once we hear back from them.

I hate to speculate, but I'm starting to wonder if Duke Energy is letting these trees overgrow so they can collect on insurance or write off the losses when they inevitably destroy the lines.

Is there a way that this can be escalated beyond Duke Energy for someone in the city to look at this gross neglect and figure out what is going on here?

For safety reasons, City staff does not trim limbs that are close to power lines. We have forwarded this request to Duke Energy Progress. We would suggest that you contact them directly at 919-508-5400. If this is a neighborhood concern, it might be beneficial if several people called Duke Energy to make them aware of the need for tree trimming in your area.
