I think the bike lanes have helped make the street much safer. I feel so much safer walking on Bergen now, without the cars speeding around the turns, especially near Vroom. The double parking is much more of an issue. I don't consider the bike lane to be an issue at all: it helps slow down drivers, makes it safe for people bicycling (I see so many now, especially many women and teenagers that I never noticed before), and also makes it safer for people walking and gives more space if you need to pass someone on the very cramped sidewalks.

Double-parking on Bergen Avenue is a very big issue. There are several other trouble spots in Journal Square, and when the police chief came to our community meeting last year he promised double parking enforcement would be one of the first things he tacked.
Well, I see no indication double-parking is enforced anywhere in Journal Square. I sent a list of trouble spots to the mayor a few weeks ago, that he forwarded to the police chief, and I am hoping enforcement begins. But I'm not holding my breath.

Another vote for parking enforcement. Hooray for bike lanes!
