What you didn't notice is that Grand Street is going to be ONE WAY. Not sure whether in or out but if you look closely, they removed the yellow line from the middle.

The yellow line will be back, it’s just being moved over. It’s not becoming one-way. There were probably 10 or so public meetings about the Grand Street redesign over the last few years and I was at every one, even as recently as a few weeks ago. Amad, making Grand Street safer was paid by a grant. This has only been 5 years in the making.

Can't wait for the bike lanes to finish. This is a massive pedestrian safety improvement for the city which is far more important than your commute time.

As someone who lives on Grand street ( and who will benefit when I ride my bike) this is a disaster waiting to happen. The illegally parked large postal trucks that litter Grand and Washington daily block the view of drivers and pedestrians. The City has basically admitted that they are powerless to make the post office stop that practice. Based on the bus drivers reactions this morning, no one told the Board of Education that the width of Grand was being reduced -- Grand between Washington and Warren is used as the school bus pick up and drop off for Bradford Elementary. Even with Grand at its present width the parked school busses cause traffic to have to go around them ( which will not be possible now that the width is less). The parents of the kids being dropped off regularly double park and wait until their child is safely on the bus. Add to this mix the commercial truck traffic that isn't supposed to be on Grand but is ( the city can't seem to post the signs that prohibit using Grand as a truck route) and the fact that there is no enforcement of any traffic regulations ( speeding , truck traffic, double parking ) in the neighborhood and you have a recipe for disaster.

For years the Paulus Hook residents have been complaining about the safety issues associated with the post office trucks, Grand street being used as a truck route and the complete lack of enforcement in Paulus Hook of any of the existing traffic regulations. These issues were raised in this click-fix forum, as input into the "vision zero" discussion and via email when the meetings were held about the bike lanes. The answer was always the same --- there was no answer.

These public comments will at least help the person who winds up getting hurt as the comments will prevent the city from claiming it had no notice of the dangerous condition it has created with the Grand Street bike lane.

This new combination of new traffic lights, new lanes, no turn on reds, etc are a grid lock in the marking. Pedestrian safety is #1, but that is a lot of money spent for the 3 dudes biking on grand.

As a female who frequently bikes on Grand, I can assure you that there are more than just 3 dudes who will be benefitting from these exciting safety improvements.

Hopefully the 4 dudes make their frequent rides daily after these, else it will be a waste (Although even a single life saved, makes it always worth it)

The Grand Street safety improvements project started in 2017. Since the commencement of the project, the City has held six community meetings to gain input from the public, and two presentations were made to the Council at two separate scheduled Caucus meetings. The improvements are necessary in an effort to meet the City's goals of Vision Zero and the Bike Master Plan. The new protected bike lane along Grand St between Greene St and Marin Blvd does not impact the number of parking lanes or travel lanes. One travel lane in each direction and parking along both sides of the street will remain.
