Last night was an embarrassment for GPD. Streets were blocked by cars for over an hour in the neighborhood by people blasting music, there was public intoxication, and not 1 officer could come due to other “priorities”.

It was outrageous. Cars parked everywhere on 3rd Ave, my entire house was vibrating, drunk and disorderly conduct in plain sight, and now trash litters our neighborhood. This went on until WAYYYY after 2am, I'd say 3:30 or 4. GPD should be able to predict this will happen in the downtown neighborhoods by now and have units specified for our areas on night like these. It drives me crazy when I drive up 6th St and see 50 - 75 patrol cars filling the parking lot at GPD yet not one can patrol our area on weekends?

If you dont want to hear the heartbeat, dont live near the heart. Fletcher's has been there a lot longer then you. Clearly another gentrifier trying to remake a historically black neighborhood in their own image, perhaps a move to the westside is in order

I love the "heartbeat". That's exactly why I took everything I had an invested into rescuing one of the houses that would have otherwise been leveled in this area. I didn't push anyone out, but instead took a discarded and doomed historic property and put my time and money into it. I love this neighborhood and am actually in the process of rescuing another house that would have been demolished. This is a great neighborhood, and believe it or not black and white neighbors live harmoniously intermingled here. The people that converge on our neighborhood have nothing to do with this "Historically black neighborhood", they are visitors that choose to disrespect our area and the laws that govern us. It's not too much to ask that people abide by the ordinances our community puts in place and respect us and our properties.

But trying to defend bad behavior by race baiting... wow A+ for effort.

I agree Suzanne, race baiting is the low hanging fruit when you have no way of defending that behavior, “clearly”. Nothing shows respect for the neighborhood quite like dumping your trash on the streets and sidewalks and public intoxication.

You know youre dog whistling when you bring up "Fletcher's crowd" I grew up on 5th ave and thats just how we roll. You coming in and buying up empty houses isnt some grand deed but a way for you to make money off the backs of the people in the neighborhood that you've displaced.

Difficult to displace someone from an empty house.

Can't blame GPD. Low numbers and on a game day. We can't expect an entire taskforce fore one small business. The city needs to stop exempting Fletcher's from existing ordinances and regulations.

Dear Nestor, a vacant home can be the result of economic displacement and everyone who has moved into and speculated on property in 5th Ave/Pleasant St over the last 20 years is responsible for that.

This conversation isn't about dog whistles or gentrification. It's about being a decent human being and not disrespecting people or neighborhoods. This conversation is about making sure our city holds ALL people to the same level of responsibility and decorum. I'd be happy to sit down and have a real conversation about gentrification though, the cause, the effects, and how to deal with it. I'd be happy to listen to your ideas Coraleelove.
