Reopening so COR can respond

This is NOT a problem. There is nothing for the COR to respond to.

Bringing ANY kind of weapon into a park is ILLEGAL

It's a baseball bat. It is not a weapon.

A weapon is defined by NC law to be any object (including baseball bats) that han inflict bodily harm or death

Definitely a weapon, no other reason for carrying that in the park.

This is a non-issue and is a sad attempt to target the disadvantaged people of Raleigh.

Killed by an elderly homeless woman with a bat. Now that'd be a way to go! Are you even reading what you're saying?! This is NOT an issue.

Not just her but male homeless bring illegal weapons into Moore Square

Ah right. All the shootings that have occurred in Moore Square are really troubling. It's such an issue that we need to vote for it on See Click Fix in order for it to be solved.

and if there is a COR ordnance banning weapons in city parks, then bringing a baseball bat into a park without a baseball field is illegal as a baseball bat is defined as a weapon that can inflict harm or death

I think the point is not if a baseball bat is or is not a weapon (which of course, it can be), it's that it's discriminatory to target this woman because she is homeless; and as she's not using the baseball bat in any threatening or violent way it is also her right to protect herself if necessary. And as she most likely doesn't' have a home, the bat goes with her. With that said, I leave it up to RPD to determine what makes the most sense in this case, and just hope that we don't continue to unfairly target the homeless in our city.

I know this lady. And if I was her and stuck outside at night, I might carry a bat too. Bats are not illegal and do not require a permit.

There are 72 people who need to get a life.

until some crazy homeless person kills you with a weapon that COR & RPD looked the other way on ... Note that not enforcing the laws is tyranny ... if you do not like it then ask that it be repealed or amended

also it is not that this homeless lady would use it to kill someone, it is that some other homeless person could take the bat away from her and use it to harm or kill someone ... the fact that any weapon would be allowed in ANY COR park is OUTRAGEOUS !!!

Apparently no one getting on their pulpit about this has ever read "The Boy Who Cried Wolf". All this does is irritate CoR and ruin SeeClickFix for people who want to use it for legitimate problems. Stop beating around the bush, just come out and say what you really mean and what the rest of us already know: you hate the homeless and you want CoR to get rid of them for you.

I've walked past this person plenty of times, and never have even seen her beg, let alone create any danger.

There's plenty of parks with baseball fields around, but this is the first time I've seen a complaint about someone with a baseball bat in a park... clearly there is no legitimate complaint about the baseball bat.

There have been some complaints on SCF regarding some in homeless people that have merit. But, the fact that someone would take a picture of a woman with a baseball bat, post it on SCF, and get 80 votes shows the truly ugly nature behind many complainers.

Downtown is for everyone (including all classes), and SCF is for actual issues (not for promoting discriminatory agendas).

This is so laughable on so many levels. And so sad, too, as it is just another example of rampant hobophobia (www.stophobophobia.org).

But you who feel this lady and her bat are some sort of public threat, stop worrying your tiny your heads about it. Pretty soon this lady can trade her bat in for a handgun and freely walk around the park with it, thanks to our wonderful legislature!

This is inaccurate information. The City is not contemplating any changes to the use of SeeClickFix. We encourage all citizens to use this tool. Seems a so-called church called "Love Wins" Ministries is spamming the site with these bogus comments. Flagged. Moderators, please consider blocking by IP, this group is angry and taking it out on us and the city of Raleigh.

There is already a SCF open regarding this issue, it has been referred to the Downtown District Station for review, closing this as it is a duplicate. Please track progress of the issue on SCF #710168.

If you see a person with a weapon in a park, please call 911. The police will be sent to investigate the matter.

Again, give it a few weeks, she can carry a gun in public park or playground, thanks to the NCGA!

The police must be thrilled with that legislation.
