I would like to request that a stop sign be installed on Port Royal Avenue at Boothbay Avenue.
There is a long stretch of road in both directions on Port Royal Avenue and cars build up speed. There are curves in both directions limiting the the line of sight for cars approaching the intersection AND pedestrians attempting to cross Port Royal Ave looking for cars approaching. This is the location of a crosswalk that many pedestrians use to walk from Boothbay Ave to the Bay Trail.
A stop sign could help slow cars back down to the speed limit and provide greater safety for the many pedestrians walking through this intersection.

Thank you for your report. City staff has reviewed the feasibility for a multi-way stop at this intersection based on the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CA MUTCD). The CA MUTCD establishes warrant criteria to determine the need for stop signs. Multi-way stop signs are typically installed where traffic volumes are close to equal in both directions. In this case, Port Royal Avenue has significantly higher volumes and because of this, stop signs are only installed on Boothbay Avenue. Furthermore, studies have shown that unwarranted stop signs are frequently violated. Unwarranted stop signs are not recommended to slow down traffic and would lead to vehicles rolling through stop signs and even speed up after the stop sign to account for lost time.
At this time, to improve visibility of the crosswalk, City staff will be installing advance pedestrian crosswalk signage to notify motorists of the crosswalk crossing Port Royal Avenue.
