Description
The North Bound I-15 on ramp on 5300 S is a very dangerous situation. Westbound vehicles that are turning right onto I-15 northbound, almost NEVER yield (Yes there is a yield sign) to the on coming traffic that is headed eastbound, turning left onto I-15 northbound. I drive through this intersection daily and every time, I see a near accident because the westbound vehicles don't yield as they are supposed to. If I am the vehicle in front, I always have to honk and stop the westbound vehicles to avoid accident because again, they aren't yielding. I've seen this every single day for over a year now. Please fix this and make those westbound vehicles stop completely, because they don't yield what so ever.

A. I see this specifically between 330 and 5pm. However I imagine this is an issue 24/7

I went through there yesterday. As I went ahead of cars coming through the intersection I then watched the two cars behind me fail to yield and almost sideswipe the oncoming traffic. One vehicle had to swerve into another lane to avoid being hit. You could stand there all day and watch this happen on both ramps.
I will bring up the other issue again. My wife and neighbor have both been rear ended (while yielding) at this intersection in the past year..
The turn is to sharp and the yield sign is around the corner. There is not enough time or space to react once you come around that corner.
Might I suggest placing a STOP sign at the corner just like any other intersection?!?
When I am using this ramp that is what I do. If there is any traffic coming through the intersection I stop at the corner or drive very slowly around the corner forcing the cars behind me to stop or slow down.
When I am coming through the intersection the opposite direction I have to assume the other cars will fail to yield. I adjust my speed to try and merge with them. I’d say it’s about a 50/50 chance they are going to yield.
It’s pretty sad that is the safest way to use this intersection without avoiding it completely. I hope UDOT will offer a solution soon....

This problem does not have a simple, inexpensive fix or we would have taken steps to resolve the problem. With the concept report, we will be able to get an accurate estimate and analysis for a longer term solution that will increase safety. Thank you for taking time to note your concerns, we are working towards a project. Thank you.
