This gets brought up every once in awhile, and UDOT just says: signage is correct...tough toots. I drive this intersection everyday as well and my horn is almost worn out.

Agreed, my horn is almost worn out as well. I understand the signage is correct, however people aren't following the signage causing danger to others. They either fix the signage, or enforce the signage.

Yep. Agreed. Highway Patrol station is right there, they could just park a unit at that intersection and make a lot of bank. Maybe there are making a third lane during this construction.

I'm now reading all of the other comments about this intersection. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Completely ridiculous this has gone on for years and has been completely ignored.

Yep. I moved in the area almost 5 years ago and contacted UDOT as soon as I moved....nothing.

I have reported this 4 times on the north bound ramp...they dont care to fix it. Its an issue going both directions

I have also commended many times on this issue. It’s very disappointing that the danger here is real but nothing ever changes...
Has UDOT made any considerations on a fix for the issue???

Maybe flashing lights or some other signage that is more obvious could be helpful. It is problematic that there is only one lane. Most ramps have 2 separate lanes. It was a bad design to begin with.

There is an issue with cars not yielding. I get it, it’s one of the few interchanges configured like this and the signage is not as obvious at it could be. I think the majority of people failing to yield do not use this ramp often and are unaware of it.
I went through there yesterday. As I went ahead of cars coming through the intersection I then watched the two cars behind me fail to yield and almost sideswipe the oncoming traffic. One vehicle had to swerve into another lane to avoid being hit. You could stand there all day and watch this happen on both ramps.
I will bring up the other issue again. My wife and neighbor have both been rear ended (while yielding) at this intersection in the past year..
The turn is to sharp and the yield sign is around the corner. There is not enough time or space to react once you come around that corner.
Might I suggest placing a STOP sign at the corner just like any other intersection?!?
When I am using this ramp that is what I do. If there is any traffic coming through the intersection I stop at the corner or drive very slowly around the corner forcing the cars behind me to stop or slow down.
When I am coming through the intersection the opposite direction I have to assume the other cars will fail to yield. I adjust my speed to try and merge with them. I’d say it’s about a 50/50 chance they are going to yield.
It’s pretty sad that is the safest way to use this intersection without avoiding it completely. I hope UDOT will offer a solution soon....

I recommended a stop sign before. They decided the flashing yield signs were enough. I also suggested taking all the bushes out because for smaller cars they block our view of oncoming traffic...they trimmed them and it didnt help. They need to be taken out.

We have contracted with a consulting engineering firm to prepare a full concept report of a project to remedy this situation. Once the concept report is complete we will be looking at funding opportunities to make the improvements.
This problem does not have a simple, inexpensive fix or we would have taken steps to resolve the problem. With the concept report, we will be able to get an accurate estimate and analysis for a longer term solution that will increase safety.
