Although there was a notification last night that the water was to be shut down, it was not. Suez posts notifications every time there is work in any area of Jersey City. This particular area near 25 Kensington Ave is under massive infrastructure restoration. The shut down notifications are being scheduled between 12am-6am to avoid as little disturbance to residents and businesses as possible. We anticipate the final restoration of the project area to be completed by the end of February. We apologize to the inconvenience, but the work is necessary. Thank You

To Suez Jersey City: you are either uninformed or lying to me. The water WAS shut off starting at 3:15am. Furthermore, the notice posted a warning until 7am. This is the THIRD time our water has been shut down in a short period of time. When you say massive infrastructure restoration, could you elaborate? When you say it will be completed by the end of February, how many more shutdowns does that entail and how frequently? Wanting more information is not wrong. Suez and the city are wrong in not better informing citizens if there's a "massive infrastructure project" that will require repeat essential utility interruptions. There are sick people here. Is a water main broken? Is each shut down not finishing the repair? Are they installing something new or replacing something that will take repeat shutdowns? A Suez rep on the phone claimed that each shutdown was a a separate, unrelated incident of something breaking, and then she put me on hold indefinitely. I waited 45 minutes.

To DavidM: Obviously Suez acknowledged that there was going to be a water shutoff as I received the notice and have been trying to get more information. I am the public. WHERE is this information that you claim suez gave the public about these improvements? One of the water shutoffs we experienced had no notice at all.

I have called Suez customer service, the city, the landlord, Suez emergency line (the only number THEY provide for "more information" on their notice) and no one will give me more information, so clearly not everyone is informed. Instead of condescendingly telling me that people have been informed and dismissing my valid concerns about access to water for sick family members, can you actually address my post and share where this information is, or better yet, simply share it with me? Your post was less helpful than the one from Suez and more insulting.

Finally, no one has addressed the major concern of my post: are there resources provided by the city to help chronic, ill, and elderly residents during these repeat water shutdowns that we have been experiencing? They are expensive and dangerous.

The water is off AGAIN. There was NO notice. When are Suez and the city going to inform residents about the ongoing work on this water main so that we can anticipate water outages? This is a health issue. You can't keep shutting off the water over and over.

Suez puts up signs every time we do any work in any area where there is a possibility water may be turned off. The water is not off for the length of the work time.. The late evening hours are the only time we are able to perform this work. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience, but this work has been approved by the JCMUA.
However; Suez is not or has not been working in the area during the day. We will send an investigator over to see why there is no water currently.

The water was out around 11am today, a Wednesday. It is back on now.

Does "in the area" mean in the building? We have frequently had water interruptions with no notice. I understand there is necessary work being done; we only request adequate notice (at least 24 hours, in writing, posted in our building, with accurate hours). The notices (we we do receive them, which is not every time the water goes out) have inaccurate hours and show up less than 24 hours before the outage. I'd received conflicting information from Suez about the scope and timeline for this work. Will it be done by February as claimed in this thread? Does that mean the end of this month? Approximately how frequently can we expect outages while work continues? Monthly, weekly, daily? And approximately how long will these outages be? We've had outages of 20 minutes and we've had outages of 7 hours.

"In the area" means the entire area of Kensington Ave and Bergen Ave. As with any outdoor construction/work, not everything can be planned to the Tee. Many factors can stop or delay work in the area, such as: freezing weather, cars blocking the work area, personnel shortage, permit expiration, etc.. Due to these multitude of factors, there is no precise date we can provide for project completion. We post every time we are doing a turn off of water at least 48 hours in advance. If for any reason we cannot perform the scheduled work on the actual work night it is rescheduled, then new signs should be posted.

The projected date of completion is by the end of February. In case any issues occur, then the completion date would move to early in March.

Thank you for this new information. I have contacted Suez repeatedly and this is the first time I've been given a clear update of this kind. Please communicate with your teams on the ground that shutoff notices are not always making it to the building affected. Thank you.

This building was posted, perhaps another tenant or the super is removing the sign, but it was and will continue to be posted.

I have proof in writing from Suez customer service that Suez did not post at my building.

An apology and a promise to do better would suffice. When you keep making excuses (and indirectly inferring I'm a liar), it's a problem. Saving face would be better accomplished by owning Suez's mistakes. We've had multiple water shutoff without notice, and often when I call the person on the phone is unsure of the reason for the shutoff or how long it will last. I have been ignored for weeks on end. Finally you are responding, which is great. But don't pretend that Suez did nothing wrong. Water is an essential utility.

Our customer service department is located in Hackensack, we are the construction office in Jersey City. They do not post nor handle postings for any properties in Jersey City. As I stated our inspectors post 48 Hours in advance. It is possible the sign was removed by another entity. The street is also posted when it comes to work in any area we are in. We apologize if notice did not get to you directly.

I have spoken to your emergency dept who have gotten in touch with team on site. SUEZ DOES NOT RELIABLY POST IN OUR BUILDING. I live here. This is a fact. We have cameras in our lobby. The postings are not removed over and over "by another entity." Sometimes, Suez fails to post. I am making a complaint about this because it's a recurring issue that has severely impacted the ability of people in my apartment to live and be well. By apologizing "if" a notice did not get to me directly, and blaming an "entity," Suez is very intentionally and carefully avoiding responsibility. No one but Suez is to blame for the fact that my water has been shut off over and over and over since November, more than half the times sans notice of any kind. Suez needs to apologize for their fault in this matter and promise to do better. If these shutoffs continue, I'll be going to the press.

Ok Elmer. I would be happy to talk to JCMUA. You responses have been callous. Imagine if you were sick and had no water over and over in your home. I have repeatedly been asking for HELP. I'm frustrated because I get ignored or blamed.
