Here's what it looks like from from an overhead photo. Notice that I left the big blob of ice at the corner. This minimizes the possibility of the snow plow re-burying the catch basin (although you do have to periodically go out and clear the two trenches, but you'll find that you won't have to star all over from scratch every time the plow goes by--which likely WOULD be the case if you completely remove all of the snow from the catch basin.

Because most streets have several feet of snow left along the curbs, trenches also can be made from driveway ends to the catch basin to prevent flooding at the end of one's driveway (although this admittedly is fairly labor-intensive).

A couple of final suggestions: if the fire hydrant near your home still is buried, you might want to get together with some folks and dig it out. The Fire Dept. has been doing this, but it's going to take them forever to clear all of them--and an inaccessible hydrant can be disastrous if your home or a neighbor's catches fire. Finally, I want to assure Ben and the others who monitor this site that I'm NOT going to post these suggestions all over SeeClickFix. (They guys get a bit annoyed when I use this site to make "global public service announcments" lol.) However, I know that New Haveners from other 'hoods monitor the City Point watch area. So if you think this is helpful info, you can post the link into you own neighborhood's SeeClickFix watch area.

Actually I recently read that the "digital divide" between lower income citizens and upper income, and between whites and minorities has decreased: the internet is just accessed differently. For example, more upper-class whites own desktop computers, while more minorities access the internet with smart phones. but BOTH groups have nearly equal access to the internet. Equal access increases equal opportunity.

I DO believe it will happen. Think what the world was like 50 years ago. There's still plenty that needs changing, but the changes/improvements that HAVE happened did so becuase that's the way people wanted it to change. And yes, I'm well aware that some people use this site to monitor neighborhood activity to try and stay ahead of the cops. But those folks are the REAL "minority". Most people at least want to be able to get along with everyone else, and want what's right and what's good for their neighborhood.

I DO believe it will happen that MOST people will--and already do--use SeeClickFix and similar internet empowerment resources to improve their lives and their communities. [= expansion of my previous post's 1st sentence, since it was in response to another person's preceding post that was deleted as objectionable]
