Vehicles routinely speed down the hill on Hilburn Drive between Pike Road and the "car entrance" road at Hilburn Academy moving toward the school. There is always a large line of cars trying to enter/exit Hilburn Academy in the mornings around 7:50 AM. Because of the number of vehicles stopped in the road, there is not alot of room for cars to pass each other. Vehicles speeding down Hilburn Drive approaching the "traffic jam" at the school in the mornings are putting people, including children just walking to school, in danger.
The speed limit on Hilburn Drive is 25 mph, but vehicles are easily, and usually, moving at 45 mph or more as they pass Pike Road and approach the school.
The police department needs to enforce the speed limit in the area. A police officer, or someone who can control the traffic, should be posted in front of the school in the mornings from ~7:40 AM until ~8:15AM.

Please don't confuse the issue of people speeding on Hilburn Drive with the issue of people dropping their kids off in front of your subdivision. These are two separate issues.
I would like to see more people parking their cars along Hilburn Drive and walking up the hill to pick their kids up after school. It would make the process much quicker, make the car pool line shorter, people would not be polluting the environment because their cars would not be running for an extra half hour a day to run the air conditioner or heat, people would not have to spend and extra $20 or $30 a month in gas just to sit in line, kids would not be stuck in the cafeteria/gym for a waisted half hour.... The benefits go on and on. I do understand, however, that there would need to be an orderly and safe process. For example, kids should only get in/out of the car on the curb side and never have to walk across the road.
I do understand and agree that people who do not live there should not park in your subdivision. However, I don't agree that people are lazy because they drop kids off at the bottom of the hill. Time is short and precious and should not be wasted. It's a shame because ineffective bureaucrats cannot find real solutions, and instead just bend with the wind (whoever is yelling the loudest wins, regardless of finding the best solution).
I don't think the school administration is going to come up with a solution. They are still stuck on the farm calendar and determine classrooms by age. Do you buy your shoes by your age? Why should kids be taught and grouped by age? Too much infighting and waisted time polluting real issues with petty grievances on the side.

I do appreciate that the police spent several days in the area over the past couple of weeks. I did see them as I walked my daughter to school. I thank them for that. I did see one "anomally" that caused traffic as it rounds the curve approaching Hilburn Academy to move a little slower than usual over the past couple of weeks (while the police were in the area). The gentleman who lives on Hilburn Drive across from Pike Road owns a lawn service and I noticed for the past couple of weeks he was parking some of his vehicles beside the road on that curve. When he does that, traffic slows down, I guess because of visibility and the road is narrowed by the parked vehicles. I do not know what the conditions are that cause him to park in that location, and I don't have a problem with it (it is actually good if it slows traffic down).
I also want to mention that Hilburn Drive is essentially a dead end in the direction towards Pike Road from Hilburn Academy, except for Pike Road itself and one other road a little further up. The fact that the police were in the area for a few days over a couple of weeks sent a strong and quick message to the neighborhood drivers that they needed to slowdown.
If the police could spare an office to enforce the speed limit in the area for half an hour every couple of weeks or so on random days, I am sure it would make a significant difference in the behavior of the drivers in the neighborhood.
Again, I do appreciate the work of the police department.
