THIS IS AN ILLEGAL SIGN WHICH IS NOT POSTED BY THE CITY. THEREFORE, IT NEEDS TO COME DOWN.

People are putting their garbage cans where they dug out their cars. So what the person put a sign there. If you need a spot dig one out yourself. It's hard enough the city didn't plow properly from the start. I'd be po'd if someone came along and parked in the spot after I spent three hours shoveling out my car. NOT A REAL COMPLAINT, GET OVER IT

Sign is illegally posted and meant to prevent people from parking on city streets, where it is perfectly legal to park wherever you can find a spot.

I totally agree. Some nerve of people you spend 4 hours shoveling out of your parking space, on the verge of having a heart attacl moving the snow. Then some one just slides right into your space. Then you have no where else to park. That's where the line is crossed. I would be beyond mad.

This is not a true issue the city should worry about more concern should be stressed on the snow removal.

You are right. City streets are open to all. At the same time, I see nothing wrong with respecting the fact that someone took hours to clear out a space in front of his house. Is there room here for some consideration? Besides, it seems like the sign is just someone's opinion, and everyone understands that it is not a legal requirement.

Well, hey, if you leave for an hour you can't expect people to know that you're the one who shoveled the spot. You have on street parking, sorry.

crtman, good idea. Next time I see the space available, I will park there. The homeowner has no LEGAL right to limit street parking, nor to post the sign in the first place, so he has no recourse.

Seriously, you guys can argue all day long about whether or not people should park in spaces others took time to clear but the issue is whether or not the city should step in and remove the sign. Craig, I understand your frustration but you need to understand that this site is for real issues that need to be addressed by the city. With the current state of our streets, I think it's fair to say that the city of New Haven has much bigger fish to fry right now! Some streets are completely inaccessible for anyone without 4WD and you really expect a city official to go out, assess this situation, and ask the owner to remove a silly sign? Really? Get real dude!!!

Goodness, this isn't an issue for the city to address. (I do think people should have the courtesy to not park in spots shoveled by other people, however).

yeah, when I put too much money in a parking meter,and have extra time, I put up a sign ,'do not park here until the meter runs out, it's my money'

While some of you were complaining that this issue wasn't "worthy," there were *13* VOTES TO FIX!

As for Gener, I shovel plenty, just like everyone else. Street parking is open to all, no matter who shoveled what space.

I do not know why someone else was able to close this issue, but that needs to be addressed by SCF. Only the person who opened the issue, or SCF staff, should be able to close an issue.

While the odd side of Norton was plowed recently, winter is not yet over. Should the homeowner replace the sign, I will open this issue once again.

I have shoveled a parking spot, knowing before hand I dont own the street and there is a chance someone else would park there, I didnt put up a sign nor did I put something to block the spot. I have experienced first hand the frustration of trying to park, but I eventually find a spot. I think you should just park there. There is nothing they can do to you. I would however not park there if I knew the resident was handicap or elderly.

Concerned Mom brought up a good point about the disabled/elderly. Anyone who qualifies for a HANDICAPPED parking spot in the front of their house should apply for one.
