In accordance with Section 13-2-205 of the Anne Arundel County Code, routine maintenance and repair of sidewalks is the responsibility of the abutting property owner unless the County has damaged the sidewalk in some manner. Driveway aprons follow the same rule as sidewalks. They are replaced by the County only if damaged by a tree or utility in the right of way. If the sidewalk was damaged by the County and a tripping hazard exists, the sidewalk will be wedged with asphalt for safety. Wedging of heaved or settled panels of concrete sidewalk not as a result of County infrastructure are done as a courtesy. Total replacement of the sidewalk is dependent upon the severity of the problem and available funding. If the sidewalk is raised less than two (2) inches, the asphalt will be the permanent repair.
