I think it’s probably difficult for the JSQ homeless population to have access to toilets with all the public spaces closed. I would advocate for more public toilets to solve this problem
Yes @Karis!!
Imagine being so privileged and hateful you can’t understand that. Thanks for your response unlike the ones above. Especially during a pandemic even most public restrooms might not be open
I can say that for me this was an issue long before there was a pandemic. Also you are incorrect to assume it is just the homeless, I have seen all sorts of people doing this on our street.
Thanks for your perspective @Kat! I agree that it's good not to make assumptions. It would be great for the city to gather more information about why people are doing this to make a well informed plan for how we could have better serviced public spaces, during the pandemic and after as well
I agree Kat. It has been going on for a long time, the boundaries have just increased to include more residential areas as well. I personally know folks who caught people defecating on their front steps recently.
I was doing a JSQ cleanup awhile back and found human feces by the ramp going to the PATH station in broad daylight.
There were businessmen in suits peeing in the alley behind the Loews theatre 3 decades ago.
Disgusting behavior on all levels and ongoing for 25+ years.
Hmm! It seems like there might be multiple causes for these issues — would love to see the city step up and figure out the best way to both keep public spaces clean & sanitary l and also not dehumanize people and make sure they have access to the facilities they need, to @Sienna’s point
Karis Jones please be advise that the Port Authority of NY & NJ ,Path Transportation Center in Journal square oversees the maintenance of the alleyway behind the Kennedy fried chicken it's their property.
Yes @O Diaz, I have been informed several times- but if we are investigating the wider cause of this public defecation instead of a specific instance then I think it’s helpful for the investigation to have holistic information about the different places where this is occurring
An Inspector/Investigator from the Division of Environmental Health has investigated your complaint and found Conditions Abated.
Ongoing issue that management of the property has been working satisfactorily to maintain.
