  It is called ZIP CODE DISCRIMINATION

  Dear Mayor,
  It is not good for one's well being to be constantly subjected to piles of garbage, filth, graffiti, homelessness, human feces, hypodermic needles. You have the power to help to improve people’s quality of life/their mental health by using laws, regulations, and codes already in place that if they were enforced would help to do that.

  This is the only public park area in out neighborhood. It should be for the property tax paying residents (and others) use. We cannot use it for fear of the illegal occupants permanently camping out there. This does not seem right?

  A San Francisco law school, business owners and local residents are suing the city to force it to clean up the Tenderloin neighborhood — alleging an almost 300 percent spike in homeless shanty towns, drug dealing and feces-covered sidewalks have made conditions “insufferable.”

  The lawsuit, filed in federal court May 4 by a group of plaintiffs led by the University of California Hastings College of the Law, seeks a court order to stop the city from using Tenderloin neighborhood as a “containment zone” for homeless encampments.

  “Open-air drug sales and other criminal activity, plus crowds of drug users and sidewalk-blocking tents, pervade and threaten the health and lives of all of the Tenderloin’s residents,” the lawsuit reads. “What has long been suffered in the Tenderloin has become insufferable.”

  Get as many of your neighbors involved. Collect evidence, such as complaint logs, ask for the incident number when you call the non-emergency line, take videos, photos. Send a formal complaint via a FedEx envelope to CM McElhaney, to Mayor Schaff, and the Department of Race and Equity.

  Then contact The Environmental Law and Justice Clinic (ELJC) Tel 415-442-6630 or 800-GGU-4YOU. www.law.ggu.edu who's goal to improve environmental conditions for communities of color and low-income people.

  When you file the suit make sure the local and national media is informed.

  They have taken over the smallest possible neighborhood park and dramatically impacted the heath and safety of the entire neighborhood. The open drug dealing all day and all night has brought crime, violence, trash, noise, cars blocking the streets, sideshows, rodents, and pollution. The kids and neighborhood needs its park back. Please do the public a service and take care of this ASAP!

  How our city streets and parks have become campgrounds for the homeless is a mystery to me. It seems like other housing arrangements could be made for these people? I work around in other more affluent neighborhoods in Oakland, and I do not see this happening. It is very threatening to our way of life. Having these indigent people roaming around the streets all hours of the night, and then sleeping on the streets, sidewalks, and parks, during the day and the night, is very disturbing to say the least.

  The homeless in Berkeley living in SHELTERS take precedence over the homeless living on sidewalks/streets/encampments in Oakland.

  April 14th “At least 13 people staying in the Dwight Way Center homeless shelter in Berkeley were moved today into the Radisson Hotel on Edes Avenue near the Oakland airport, one of the Oakland hotels the state has rented to protect people from contracting COVID-19.

  Residents of three other homeless shelters in Berkeley will be screened soon with the intent of moving people Wednesday or Thursday, according to an email City Manager Dee Williams-Ridley sent to Berkeley officials”…..Berkeleyside.

  No masks or distancing here at all. Down 34th across from the store groups of the unmasked congregate. I feel for anyone that has to actually WALK past these spreaders of disease.
  Why won't the city protect its citizens? Do they own stock in bodybag companies?

  Every time that I drive by these parks they are more filled up with tents, tarps, people, trash, garbage, etc. I see that someone has added what appears to be a dog pen constructed out of wooden pallets? Tent and tarp constructions are all over the stage, sidewalk, picnic tables, etc.. The little parks are filling up to capacity and starting to overflow. Trash and garbage is in boxes, plastic bags, and strewn all over the adjacent gutters, streets, and sidewalks. A bunch of people jay walking across the the streets with seemingly no regard for street traffic. In general, it is a very unseemly and dangerous illegal occupation of an area designated by the city for something else entirely? I thought that it was supposed to be a public park, not a refuse for indigent squatting?

  It’s been FIVE MONTHS. Five. This isn’t a homeless encampment it’s the most lucrative drug corner in West Oakland. Where is vice? Why does no one care that there is flagrant drug dealing going on - only to be followed by users then parking on Haven St to use their drugs and toss their needles all over the street. I shouldn’t have to own a sharps container and tongs to clean up the biohazard waste that my dog shouldn’t have to walk through. Let alone another human being. Enough is enough. I drove by Mosswood Park the other day - there were people doing yoga in the park! Yoga!! In a public park. Crazy! Maybe we have to wait two years like Mosswood?

  Seems like it wouldn't be difficult to catch the dealers as they come by at regular intervals and all the "campers" crowd around the black sedan.
  Everyone call in drug activity to the drug hotline. Enough calls will result in sme action...

  The old green Volvo is the dumper of syringes on Haven. They park by the back garden gate - put towels over the windows and sit in the car and use then dump their trash all over the street.

  I do not see anyone in these encampments wearing protective masks, gloves, or even social distancing. Does the virus not effect these people? Or are they different, special, exempt, from the rules the rest of us are expected to follow? Seems like kind of an unexplained abberation to me?

  They have taken up close to 100% of the usable park space and converted the neighboring streets to 24 hour drive through drug markets. No masks, no social distancing, etc. This is a hotspot for community spread just waiting to happen (if it hasn’t already started). This is not allowed to go on in the Hills and other areas of Oakland where many of the decision making politicians live. Why not move the drug market out of the residential park and into an industrial zone like the port? Require a social distance line like Home Depot and require masks and sanitation? Free up the park for the kids and neighborhood and remove the health and safety issues secondary to violence, covid, rodents, theft, trash, noise, etc. Please shut this down immediately. Do the public a service
