Description
Yesterday on the river walk I witnessed three young children (around age 10) run up to the bridge and proceed to cross the river on the OUTSIDE of the bridge on both sides, almost racing across, using the bars as hand-holds and side-stepping their feet on the flat metal railing all the way across. I tried to dissuade them from doing it again, pointing out all the potential hazards, but they were sure of themselves and wouldn't listen. In their arguments to me, they said, in fact, that they do it all the time. PLEASE find a way to block access. If it will help, I'll meet Lansing officials and show them what the children were doing.

Good afternoon,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I spoke with the Parks Director, Brett Kaschinske, who told me he has contacted the individual who posted this complaint to get an idea of times when the children are doing this.
Brett has spoken with Police Chief Yankowski to get some patrols in that area during the peak hours to discourage the youngsters from this dangerous behavior. If you witness individuals partaking in these stunts, please contact LPD right away at 483-4600
Cordially,
