These lights are actually under the state's jurisdiction and not the City of Somerville, please report them directly to Nstar at 1 (800) 592-2000.

Hi Jesse,
I strongly believe that this is a city street. Although McGrath Highway runs parallel to the Somerville Ave Extension and all addresses are McGrath Highway, the extension itself is city property according to Ward 2 Alderman Heuston's order that the city street sweep that roadway (see the August 22, 2013 Board of Alderman Agenda item 34). The city's tax assessor's map 113 shows that the abutting properties are taxed as city property, but does not clarify if the fronting street is city or state responsibility. Can you please reconfirm that this is state responsibility before I call NStar? Thank you.

HI AZ,
Thank you for the thorough question about who is responsible for the lights along McGrath Highway, these do indeed fall under the jurisdiction of the state and need to be reported to Nstar.
Thank you,
Jesse Moos

Hi Jesse,
Thanks for the reply. I called NStar. They told me that these lights are city responsibility. Clearly there is a run around here. Can you please tell me which department of the State is responsible for that Roadway so that I can call them? Is it DOT or DCR and can you provide a number to contact someone in the proper area since NStar denies responsibility?

Jesse,
Thanks, but that's the RMV (registry) phone number within MassDOT. I'll research the correct number and figure this out.
