Description

I am reporting the cross walk between Chavis Way and Holmes Street, across MLK, is not working properly. Both directional buttons do not always stop traffic for safe crossing. Sometimes they work within 15 seconds, and other time, they never trigger a walk light. We use this crosswalk to access Chavis Park and it is a popular link for greenway access and this is a daily bus route. This issue requires prompt attention.

Additionally, the visibility and evaluation of making this a four-way traffic light intersection is warranted. There have been numerous occassions where drivers failed to stop at the red light and nearly hit my wife or our baby in the stroller. Changing this from a cross walk traffic light to a four way intersection would make this a safer place to cross a busy arterial roadway downtown. Foot traffic is only going to increase when the new Chavis Park opens next year and all would benefit from a four way traffic light controlled intersection.

Thank you,
Will
