Description
Is it illegal to take a late night walk? A guest staying at out house was questioned twice about walking in front of my house at night, past midnight, while on the phone and enjoying the cool breeze after the hot days we've been having.
I guess a "see something, say something" neighbor called the cops and they stopped by to check it out, which they should and I'm glad they did. My guest told the officer that he was talking a walk while on the phone with family and pointed out our house to the officer and told him he was visiting us.
What was unwarranted is for the first officer to leave after talking to my guest and come back with two more cars as backup and talk rudely (a different officer) to him again for no other purpose than, in my opinion, to intimidate.
My spouse is an astrophysicist and so is my guest. We step outside late in the night to observe meteor showers or watch the ISS go by frequently. I'm sure he was looking out for any stragglers from the parseid meteor showers from a few days ago.
Now I'm concerned if this is going to be an issue if we were to take a late night walk or step out in the night to enjoy the night sky. Do I have to be worried about a visit from the cops?
I'm saddened that we find ourselves in a situation where people are worried about interaction with cops, but these incidents don't help improve the perception/optics.
I'd love to hear back from someone who can help make a change.
Thank you.

Also I should have said "concerned neighbor" and not refer to them as I did, my apologies to who ever it was.
I guess I let my emotions get the better of me.

The same officers responded both times. If your guest has a complaint with the officers, please have him contact the Midnight Shift Commander, Lt. Greg Reardon gmr@framinghamma.gov
